'I used to smoke cigarettes before my husband's warning' - Toyin Abraham

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has revealed that she used to smoke cigarettes, but decided to quit after a firm warning from her husband, Kolawole Adeyemi, whom she described as one of the best things that has ever happened to her.

Speaking in a recent interview, the actress praised her husband for allowing her to be herself while supporting her personal growth, stating that he has always encouraged her to shine without trying to change who she is.

“I used to smoke cigarettes. I still vape once in a while, but I stopped cigarette,” she disclosed.

Recounting the incident that changed her habit, Toyin said it happened after she had given birth.

According to her, they had gone out, and she smoked cigarette in her husband’s presence. She said, rather than confronting her immediately, he waited until they got home before speaking to her.

“He didn’t say anything. He just said, ‘You’re free to do anything you want, but if our kids ever see a blunt in your hand, that will be the end of our marriage,” she recalled.

The actress said the statement was enough to make her stop smoking cigarettes because she wanted to protect her family. “I want my home,” she added.

Toyin also described the level of trust in their marriage, explaining that her husband never stops her from spending time with friends.

She said she can inform him about plans to go clubbing, and instead of objecting, he simply asks her friends to look out for her.

“I can call my husband and tell him, ‘Oh babe, Morayo said we are going to club.’ My husband will just say, ‘Let me talk to her. Please help me look after her. Don’t let her drink because if she drinks, she will be jumping around,” she said.

“I used to smoke cigarettes, but now I only vape once in a while. My husband, Kolawole Adeyemi, told me I’m free to do anything I want, but if our kids ever see a blunt in my hand, that’s the end of our marriage.”
