Pastor John Wesley Amenuku Agble is a Ghanaian preacher
Pastor John Wesley Amenuku Agble has once again caused a stir on social media following a comment he made regarding how Christian families should disregard the traditional practice of receiving dowry items.
In a video making waves on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on August 20, 2026, Pastor John Wesley, who is known for making controversial statements, noted that Christians should ditch traditional marriage ceremonies.
According to him, such practices are outdated, “barbaric,” and do not follow the teachings of Christ.
'Give to the church even before giving to your parents' - Pastor stirs debate
“You are a Christian, and you want to marry, but the foundation of the marriage is traditional. When they gave birth to you, they dedicated you to Christ in church. You grew up; your mother showed you the picture; you are a Christian. You have also grown, accepted Christ, and are in church.
“...And you are going to marry; now they go to the village, and an abusuapanyin who has never set foot in the church gives you a list. You, too, now that you have been a Christian, and your mother and father have been Christians all these years, also collect this list. Is that not a problem?” he said.
The pastor added, “Christians, wake up, wake up! Stop this hypocrisy. Stop this nominal Christianity and ask questions when you talk. Some pastors tell you that you have to obey that one ignoramus in the Spirit. They don’t know anything in the Spirit, so they will tell you because they are traditional pastors,” he added.
