'There's no money in being an MP' - John Dumelo

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Setor Dumelo, has clarified a longstanding rumor regarding the benefits sitting MPs enjoy in Parliament.

John Dumelo, while responding to a question on X, claimed that there is no financial gain in being an MP.

According to the actor-turned-politician, people have different motives for wanting to become parliamentarians.

However, he said the claims that politicians recoup money from their positions are false.

He further explained that even though there is no direct financial benefit in the position, an MP can use their position to leverage certain benefits.

“People have different reasons for wanting to go to Parliament… but money no dey inside like that. You can, however, use your position as an MP as leverage for certain things,” he said.
