The best marriages are ones between two "givers". A marriage between a "giver" and a "taker" leads to misery for the "giver" who ends up being the one keeping the marriage going at many levels, ALL THE TIME. Obviously the worst marriages are between two "takers" and not surprisingly such marriages are marked by constant strife, arguments and fighting as each partner strives to get their way.
"Takers" are self-centred, often narcissistic individuals who are insensitive to the needs of their spouse. They usually regard their spouse as someone there primarily to meet their physical,emotional and financial needs but do not feel that they need to put in any effort to make the marriage work. These are the types who think nothing of having affairs.
In contrast, "givers" are usually thoughtful,considerate and devoted individuals. KEEP IN MIND THAT EVERYBODY IS A MIXTURE OF BOTH GIVER AND TAKER WITH ONE TRAIT PREDOMINATING.
In marriages that are growing and maturing ( and this takes years!) partners LEARN to adjust to each other, learn to put the other person's needs before theirs.
MARRIAGE BASED ON 50%EQUAL SHARING DON'T TEND TO WORK WELL BECAUSE WHAT ONE SPOUSE CONSIDERS TO BE THEIR 50% CONTRIBUTION MAY ONLY BE REGARDED AS A MERE 30%. IT IS FAR BETTER TO BE A 70+% CONTRIBUTER OR "GIVER".
Above all a marriage based solidly and constantly on Godly principles found in the Holy Scriptures is far more likely to go the distance and result in a harvest of peace and contentment as the years roll by.
