Veteran Nigerian actor Pete Edochie has expressed his thoughts on the challenges facing Ghana’s once-promising movie industry.
Speaking to the press following his arrival in Ghana on September 29, 2026, Pete Edochie said he is not happy that the movie industry, which is blessed with so many talented individuals, is struggling to find its feet.
“I actually don't feel happy that the industry in Ghana is no longer flourishing. I believe that if some of these big industries are approached to sponsor films that tell the story of Ghana, you sustain the pressure.
“At one time in the life of our own industry, the marketers who were producing most of these films became big-headed. They're not really educated, if you call them chairman; they got swollen-headed. At a stage, it appeared as if the industry was going to crash. Then some young men who are making money now decided, look, why don't we just try shooting this thing?” he said.

Pete Edochie also advised industry players to reconsider involving the government in their activities.
According to him, the Ghanaian movie industry can be revived if the government and key agencies in the country invest in it.
Explaining further, Pete Edochie noted that directors and other industry players can receive funding from the government and key stakeholders by telling stories that project their work.

“I think it can be revived; I believe so, and then, of course, to get the government to invest in it. If there is some area of government that has not been well received by the populace, if you tell a story about it, the government can invest.
“I know that. We have witnessed it in our own place. The government can invest. Even policemen who can hardly give. When they discover that their public image is terrible and you make a film that will show them as the greatest people that God created, they will respond; they will pay for it. You know, it can happen here,” he added.
