Ghanaian TikToker Asantewaa has explained why she ended her marriage to her ex-husband, Jeffrey Obiri Boahen, despite insisting that he did nothing wrong during their relationship.

In a social media post, the TikToker explained that her decision to leave the marriage was based on their genotypes, as both she and her ex-husband are carriers of sickle cell.

According to her, although there was no wrongdoing on either side, she could not continue with the marriage because she was concerned about the possibility of having children with sickle cell disease.

“So for my ex-husband, he did me no wrong, and I also didn't hurt him in anyway. I only decided to walk away because we are both sickle cell carriers and he was still insisting we continue with the marriage,” she explained.

Asantewaa further disclosed that during the separation process, Jeffrey did not involve his family because he still wanted the marriage to work.

She claimed that her ex-husband continued to tell his family that everything was fine between them for years, even though she had decided to leave the marriage.

“For whatever reason, my ex-husband decided never to involve his family in our separation because he still wanted us to be together. He kept telling his family lies that all was well between us for years. He kept holding me back,” she noted.

The TikToker explained that her ex-husband tried several times to save the marriage, but she remained firm in her decision because of her family's painful experience with sickle cell disease.

According to her, the loss of three of her siblings to the disease made it difficult for her to take the risk of having children who could also suffer from the condition.

“He tried all possible means not to let me go, but I had to, knowing how 3 of my siblings died because of sickle cell... I just couldn't fathom giving birth to sickle cell kids knowingly!!!” Asantewaa said.

She also revealed that when she left the marriage and later entered into a relationship with rapper AMG Armani, one of the first things she checked was his genotype.

She disclosed that he is AA, a genotype that meant their children would not be at risk of having sickle cell disease caused by the combination of two sickle cell carrier parents.

She explained that knowing Armani's genotype gave her peace of mind about having children with him.

Asantewaa added that she has always respected her ex-husband and continued to do so even after their separation. However, she maintained that she could not agree to remain in a marriage in which both partners were sickle cell carriers.
