Ghanaian musician Fameye has revealed that rapper Medikal played an unexpected role in his decision not to pursue a university education, stating that the rapper’s journey inspired him to focus on music instead.

Speaking in an interview with the Headless YouTuber, Fameye recalled meeting Medikal on the day they were both expected to write their Mathematics examination.

According to him, he asked the rapper why he was leaving instead of heading into the exam hall.

“I met Medikal on my way to write my Maths paper because we went to the same high school, and I asked him why he was running away when we had an exam. He told me he had a performance with Criss Waddle at Music Music, so he couldn’t write it. If I’m lying, the next time he goes for an interview, he should debunk it. I can say that Medikal didn’t write Maths,” he recounted.

Fameye admitted that he also entered the examination hall but felt overwhelmed because the students around him were academically gifted yet unwilling to help him.

He said he eventually lied that he wanted to use the washroom and seized the opportunity to leave the exam without writing the paper.

“I went to sit in the exam hall, and everyone around me was brilliant but stingy. They were not ready to help me, so I made up an excuse that I wanted to visit the washroom and I ran away,” he said.

The singer explained that at the time, he was focused on rap music and had already written several rap songs.

However, he said a senior in school advised him that his voice sounded more suited for singing than rapping, prompting him to switch directions and work on developing his vocals.

Reflecting on his academic decision, Fameye said failing to write the Mathematics examination made him believe his chances of gaining admission to a university had become slim.

Rather than dwell on it, he eventually chose to pursue music wholeheartedly, taking inspiration from Medikal’s determination.

“Because I didn’t write Maths, I knew automatically it was going to be very difficult for me to go to the university. I psyched my mind that I wouldn’t go to the university, but I had to make it somehow. If Medikal could do it, then I could also do it,” he said.

Fameye further disclosed that after Medikal rose to fame, the rapper occasionally gave him money whenever they met.

He later reached out to him on Facebook, where Medikal encouraged him to remain patient and continue working hard.

“He replied and said, ‘Don’t worry, bro, you will blow. It’s a matter of time, just keep on supporting.’ From that time, I have never hated anyone. I rather take people as inspiration to do better. Medikal’s words really inspired me, so I became a staunch supporter of his work,” he stated.

Although he acknowledged that Medikal’s journey influenced his decision not to pursue higher education, Fameye stressed that he was not blaming the rapper for his choices.

“So Medikal plays a huge role in my inability to go to the university. This is not to blame him or anything, but he inspired me,” he concluded.
