Yvonne Nelson allowed journalists to interview her while working in Maryland and it appeared in the Washington Post. If anyone sends that report to US Immigration, she would never be allowed in that country.

A Ghanaian resident of Charleroi, Pennsylvania, Washington County in the US who was arrested for cheque scams sometime in March 2009 has been convicted.

According to ghanabusinessnews.com, the man, Steven Mensah-Yawson, 33 faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, federal prosecutors in Pittsburg were quoted to have said.

The US Attorney’s Office said he worked with multiple recruiters and at least 15 cheque cashers to perpetrate the fraud.

Mensah-Yawson was said to have made counterfeit cheques on his laptop computer and gave them to his collaborators who either cashed them or found others to do so. The ring, the reports said passed 55 counterfeit cheques. A jury convicted him last week and sentencing has been set for January 7, 2011.

Therefore there was the need for the police to follow up and ask her a few questions as a matter of procedure."

The alarm does not alert the security system in the neighbourhood but in the store! It is meant to stop someone before the person gets out with the unpaid item.

The police were called to the house and not by the system!

First, i thought she was a victim of unfortunate circumstance but after reading and listening to her contradictory account of the story, i am left with no other option than to believe she did it. Initially she said it drop without she noticing it. Then later she said she deliberately took it but it disappeared when she was paying for the goods bought. Now her mentor is saying she does not even know how it got to the pram. Think..think...think coz u may not be so dumb. If you have ever lived in the west, you would fail to support her. After realizing she did not have any intention of stealing, they would have apologized to her instead of chasing an innocent victim to her house and asking her to pay for a penalty. Penalty for crime you never committed? Or penalty because she was the only rich person ever to have payed the items with cash instead of credit card.

I will urged this lady to look for either a supervisor or the Manager of the shop and lodge a formal complaint of that guy's conduct. It could have curtailed the police nonsense in her house.
This is what most of us go through everyday. It happened to me in Canada, USA etc, and even in my own Ghana.

No security personnel will let you out of their sight when it's established that you are shoplifting without first calling the police on you.

This writer is bitter because, the presence in that house affected someone's illegal immigration status which could result to the person's deportation.

2. In all the versions of this story and my contribution, there has been nowhere that one was made to pay 100 dollars for a crime one genuinely didn't commit mentioned. I don't know where you are coming from let alone misconstrue my opinion about this whole story. All I know is this lady was made to pay 10 pounds which was the value of the jewel when she expressed her interest in the item and took it away with her.
3. As a matter of fact I am sensible as you rightly stated that's why I take my time to put the pros and cons together before I come out with my contributions on this medium.

In the tape, Emelia herself said she was asked to go to court to defend herself or opt for the penalty of 80 pounds.(i mentioned 100 dollars because i roughly estimated 80 pounds to be 100 dollars since you live or lived in US and Canada). According to her, there was a man in her house who advised her that since her visa would expire in 2015, and she does not know when she would be processed for court, she should opt for the 80 pounds penalty. So she paid for the penalty of 80 pounds. I thought you have been following this story that is why i asked if you would have done that. So now even if they were white police racists asking you to pay 80 pounds for a crime you did not commit, would you have payed for it? I do not know you but from the way you have responded sensibly to my post, if it had been you, I know you would have defended yourself in court rather than paying for a penalty of 80 pounds and being entered into the records books as a thief, for a crime you never committed.

I only realised when i was outside the building, not being chased and I went back into the shop and told them about the incident and then I paid for it. We are just human, we make mistakes sometimes through forgetfulness. Now the question still remains as to whether she did steal it or not and one thing nobody should try to do for her is to give an answer. She is the only one that knows what actually happened on that faithful day and would be answerable to God Amen

Kweki Ananse died long ago and his stories have stopped being listened to. So who told the bed mates to concert these Kweku Ananse stories?
