Chronicling the events that unfolded during his incarceration, Ken Kuranchie has expressed doubt about the civilization of the country. He said: "we have no right to call ourselves civilized people.”. In his view, Ken Kuranchie, Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Searchlight, explained his 10-day prison experience after being declared contemptuous of court following a publication in his newspaper, said: "Ghanaians have no right to call themselves “civilized people.”

He was jailed for two years in 2010 but investigators then discovered he owned a large luxury house in Nigeria
He also had a £25,000 watch and his wife wore a Rolex watch and drove a Mercedes sports car
Mayomi, 44, has now been ordered to pay almost £1.2million under the Proceeds of Crime Act

A minicab driver who claimed he was earning just £700 a month but was living a luxury of life in his Nigerian mansion, has been ordered to pay almost £1.2million.

Ovo Mayomi and his wife Juliet Ubiribo were convicted of fraud in 2010 after using an identity and immigration scam to falsely claim £43,000 in benefits.

Mayomi, 44, claimed he was earning £700 a month and was living in Croydon, south London, while his wife, 32, claimed benefits after telling benefit bosses she was a single mother and a victim of domestic violence.

A woman stole a dead mother’s identity to trick her way into Britain – and then defrauded taxpayers out of more than £100,000.
Illegal immigrant Catherine Kyie, 33, was jailed for impersonating a mother who died after childbirth to get from Ghana into the UK.

A court heard mother-of-three Kyie then claimed family tax credits, child benefit payments and was paid by the NHS over eight years.
Kyie pretended to be tragic Joyce Pokuaa – another Ghanaian woman who had married a Dutch man and started their own family.
Prosecutor Roger Griffiths said: ‘But she died three months after giving birth to her son in 2003.

‘But it meant she would have been free to travel through Europe because of her marriage. Kyie stole her identity and took on her name.’
Kyie’s then allowed fellow Ghanian Kenneth Boateng, 45, to pretend to be her husband so he could illegally get into Britain in 2005.
The couple and their three children lived in Britain claiming state benefits and child tax credits.
But Cardiff Crown Court heard they were finally rumbled when relatives of the dead mother’s 10-year-old son wanted him to come to the country.

Mr Griffiths said: ‘He was unable to travel because it was discovered his passport had been renewed in 2009 by Boateng and a woman claiming to be his mother – although she had been dead for five or six years.
‘That passport was eventually found at their home.
‘Police also discovered a Dutch identity card and a passport in the name of Joyce Pokuaa but showing Kyie’s photograph.’

The court heard two of the couple’s three children, aged five, seven and 10, were born in the UK.

The ID fraud family lived illegally in Newport, South Wales, for eight years before they were caught.
Kyie worked illegally as a cleaner in NHS hospitals and universities, while Boateng worked as a driver and late night security guard.
Claire Pickthall, defending Kyie, said: ‘It is a serious offence and she accepts her motivation was gain.
‘But the gain was only to come to the UK to have a better life for herself and her family – nothing more sinister than that.
‘She has worked hard all the time she has been here.

‘The mother of three was arrested along with Boateng who at first claimed he had been duped and thought his wife’s name was Joyce.
But the couple eventually pleaded guilty to 14 charges of fraud by misrepresentation to enter and remain in the UK illegally.
Judge Patrick Murphy told Kyie she was the ‘prime mover’ in the fraud.
He said: ‘You obtained benefits through employment and tax benefits to the cost of £104,562.
‘

The commission of all your offences is based on the identity theft of Joyce Pokuaa by you.’
Judge Murphy said Kyie began stealing the dead mother’s identity documents in 2004 – just months after she gave birth to a son and died in Ghana following childbirth complications.

He told the pair it was now their children who had become the innocent victims.
Judge Murphy told them: ‘You took the chance – they will pay the price.
‘Possession and use of false identity documnets are serious offences and go to the heart of undermining the immigration processes of this country.

‘They deprive others of legal entry to the country and employment and allow false benefits to be maintained at cost to the legitimate British tax payer.’
Kyie was imprisoned for 15 months and Boateng for 12 months.
Both were told they would be automatically deported after serving their sentence

Ghanaian Prostitution Flood TurkeySome Ghanaian ladies residing in Turkey are allegedly engaging in prostitution to make a living, unconfirmed reports reaching Ghana’s Embassy in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, indicate.

Alhaji Abass Ibrahim, Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, has told DAILY GUIDE exclusively that his outfit had been receiving several complaints about some Ghana ladies engaging in prostitution.

Alhaji Abass insisted that the Ghana Embassy in Turkey could not confirm the speculations, saying “this is just rumours going round.”

However, he said, those who have been complaining about the alleged bad conduct of the women, lamented that the ladies were tarnishing Ghana’s image in Turkey, so his office should intervene.

Though he could not confirm the speculations, the Ambassador took the opportunity to admonish Ghanaian women in Turkey to live acceptable lifestyles to promote Ghana’s image, positively.

Alhaji Abass also charged all Ghanaians living in Turkey, notably the men, to conform to the laws of their host country so that they would stay away from trouble.

Touching on the business opportunities that abound in Turkey, he said “Turkey is now a big economy on the globe, as it produces different types of goods of high quality but their prices are affordable”.

He again encouraged Ghanaian businessmen to turn to Turkey to do business.

A Ghanaian resident of Charleroi, Pennsylvania, Washington County in the US who was arrested for cheque scams sometime in March 2009 has been convicted.

According to ghanabusinessnews.com, the man, Steven Mensah-Yawson, 33 faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, federal prosecutors in Pittsburg were quoted to have said.

The US Attorney’s Office said he worked with multiple recruiters and at least 15 cheque cashers to perpetrate the fraud.

Mensah-Yawson was said to have made counterfeit cheques on his laptop computer and gave them to his collaborators who either cashed them or found others to do so. The ring, the reports said passed 55 counterfeit cheques. A jury convicted him last week and sentencing has been set for January 7, 2011.

The 37-year-old – who lived in a £300,000, five-bedroom home in Livingston – defrauded thousands of pounds from the taxpayer.

She told the authorities she was a hard-up single mother who needed help to eke out her meagre income and support her children.

In fact, she was a successful businesswoman living in a luxury house with husband Stephen, who ran an IT consultancy and worked for Edinburgh University.

She paid herself around £2000 a month out of her hairdressing company and from a rental property while she was cheating the state.

After pleading guilty in 2010 to falsely claiming £18,000 from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), she was forced to sell her home and close the successful hairdressing company called Koko’s Indulgence she had run for five years.

Lanipekun, originally from Nigeria, lived in the upmarket Murieston area of Livingston, West Lothian.

She failed to notify officials at the DWP that her husband was living with her and they were running a business from their home.

Lanipekun, a first offender, was sentenced to 160 hours of community service, ordered to repay the money she falsely claimed and told to pay thousands of pounds more to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs after investigators discovered huge chunks of her income could not be explained.

Initially, HMRC demanded £390,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act but, after discussions with forensic accountants, Lanipekun’s lawyers negotiated this down to £52,194.

At a hearing yesterday, prosecutor Brent Bissett told the court that there was no prospect of the Crown now obtaining any more cash from Lanipekun because she had left the UK and it was not known whether she would return or not.

The court was told that the amount of money she had received from the sale of her property was not enough to meet the amount due under the confiscation order.

Sheriff Douglas Kinloch ruled the confiscation order should be amended to reflect the Crown had only been able to reclaim £15,500 of the amount due.

Ghana today is not what our founding fathers envisioned. The founding fathers risked their lives to give us freedom and justice to dream, to innovate, to defend our rights and resist oppressors’ rule. There is no freedom and justice in the Corrupt Republic of Ghana now.

The president of the 4th Republic of Ghana has been given absolute powers by the 1992 constitution as a stamp of corruption. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The fish rots from the head. As the head of the government is corrupt so are his followers and institutions under whom.

Ghanaians are politically drunk, according to CNN, that everything is tied with political party affiliation. School children in Ghana know more about corruption than patriotism and volunteerism. The children are being thought that the only ways to gain employment, and secure bank loans is to hold a party card. They live lavishly without productivity. The only job worth doing in the Corrupt Republic of Ghana is making “connections” for quick money.

Corrupt legal and law enforcement systems breed anarchy and lawlessness. Ghana is heading to a state of vigilantism where street justice is the only thing the citizens believe in. they would not believe in the legal system in light of the recent Supreme Court verdict on the election petition.

Taxation without representation is not just. The Corrupt Republic of Ghana has become animal farm where some are more equal than others. This could lead to tax revolt and social unrest.

The president of the Corrupt Republic of Ghana is not accountable to the tax payer, is not transparent and refuses to declare his asset mandated by the constitution, and shows no remorse for failed policies. The Corrupt Republic of Ghana is the 34th worst nation to conduct business.

Think for what you can do for your country and not what your country can do for you. JFK. We need a few good man and women to sacrifice and resuscitate mother Ghana. Ghana is worth dying for, but Ghanaians have to change the foundation -The 1992 Constitution to bring about true democracy where the executive, legislative and judiciary are truly separated and independent. The residents at the local level must be empowered to decide their priorities and manage their affairs.

!. The acts of TERRORISM started in West Africa by Ghanaians as far back as 1950, with their 'METIMEHU' bomb throwing terrorist acts. (A Ghanainas citizen Asiedu, was amongst the Islamic terrorists that bombed London buses and underground stations here in London in 2005).

Ghana has declared a state of emergency in a northern town after a tribal chief and around 25 of his guards were killed in factional clashes, police and witnesses reported on Wednesday.

The fighting, which began on Monday, is part of a long-running dispute over the traditional chieftaincy in Yendi, 50 miles north of the provincial capital Tamale.

An information ministry statement said that the tribal chief Yakubu Andani -- the Ya-Na or Paramount Chief of the Dagombas of northern Ghana -- and some of his associates had been killed during overnight fighting.

Private radio station Joy FM quoted witnesses in Yendi as saying that the Ya-Na had been beheaded and the bodies of him and around 25 of his bodyguards set on fire. His palace had also been destroyed, they added.

Police sources confirmed the estimates, but could not give definite casualty figures.

Police reinforcements and soldiers have been sent to the area to enforce a dawn-to-dusk curfew imposed on Monday, but witnesses in the town said sporadic shooting had continued even after they arrived and Yendi remained tense on Wednesday.

Local radio stations said many residents had fled the fighting.

The clashes came as Yendi's traditional fire festival, known as the Bugum festival, was due to start.

It is regarded as one of the West African country's most picturesque festivals, involving a night-time display of drumming, dancing and blazing torches believed to commemorate the search for the missing son of a previous Dagomba chief.

The Dagomba are a large people group living in northern Ghana. Their kingdom, called Dagbon, was established centuries ago and dominated an area near the Dagomba capital of Yendi. Yendi was located east of the White Volta River and north of Tamale. In the 1600's, the Gonja people began to attack Dagbon from the west, pushing the Dagomba across the White Volta and forcing them to abandon their capital. Yendi was soon renamed Yendi Dabari which means "ruined Yendi."

By the end of the 1600's, however, the Dagomba pushed eastward, establishing a new capital for their kingdom (also called Yendi) and located east of Tamale near the border of Togo. In the early 1700's, the Dagomba rallied against the pressuring Gonja and succeeded in driving them back. Today, the Dagomba remain a powerful people. They speak Dagbani, which is a Gur language.
