Ghallywood do not exist outside Ghana. Finding another name will rather kill your industry more. Because you have to build up the name and that will take time. Ghallywood is already in the process.

With all the beauty in our rich and diversified culture, why is it so difficult for typical Akans who happen to have all forums and media at their disposal, never find anything fascinating in Hausa, Ewe, Nzema or Ga. In the same breathe I simply cannot understand these minority groups, who can't seem to get together with some substantial funding to create their own movie, TV and Radio industries, and showcase and isolate their cultures, languages and stars. Indeed that competitive edge might make Ghana a more remarkable and exiting place, instead of all this bickering and infantile hostilities between Akans and all other Ghanaians.

Quite honestly, these Twi-oriented movies and media activities are such a disgrace to our integrity and sophistication as a Nation. It seems that the lower class, village and semi-educated folks have taken over our public exposure, making us all look tacky, mediocre and primitive in some ways.

All the arguments about the industries nomenclature are so flawed. Yes it is ethnocentric, even the guys claiming tribal bias, are oblivious to their own precise tribal bias in the name search. What a blind nation of know-it-alls!!!

No one tribe is supposed to be better than the other, proponents argued.

No national referendum tabled, the matter died a natural death.

This 'Wood' thing, in a small scale appears to resurrect the debate again.
Unfortunately, all the names suggested here have had something to do with the Akan language which has prompted many varying opinions.

Here is one:
Quite honestly, these Twi-oriented movies and media activities are such a disgrace to our integrity and sophistication as a Nation. It seems that the lower class, village and semi-educated folks have taken over our public exposure, making us all look tacky, mediocre and primitive in some ways.(CITIZEN ONE)

Reading between the lines above, one could easily deduce that, Hon. CITIZEN ONE who is well vexed in the academies have committed a mental and academic suicide as he has looked down upon the under privileged, i.e. the have nots, as primitive, tacky and mediocre.

Apparently, the learned fellow is either refusing or has woefully failed to admit that, the Akan language is peculiar in nature.
There are 52 indigenous Ghanaian languages, with 9, officially used as medium media instructions to the wider community.
"The Akan is the language for wider communication." I can attest.

Visit every nook and corner of the country and you will find the Akan being live in those areas as opposed to Hausa only in the North,, Ewe in that closet, the Ga predominantly in Accra surrounding areas, the rest being negligible.

That apart, the Akan is widely covered at the tertiary institutions more the rest of the languages.

It follows naturally that, slogans,
epithets, appellations, accolades and many more jargons would mostly appear
in the most popular language of the nation. Can you deny that fact?

Nigeria - Nollywood
India - Bollywood
Ghana - Ghallywood

Incidentally, all these 3 countries without British intervention would by now be as primitive and uncivilized as their ancestors wanted it to be. Currently all these countries function as 3rd world countries because there is a class of traditionalist(the backwards) and the progressives(the enlightened).
