Talking Drums, Eddie Blay Jnr, Smokey, Zonto, Mamme Felicia Konadu, Atentenben... Not forgetting the producers who DARED to challenge the established highlife producers - Damfo Domeno...etc. Those producers (Panji, Victor, Kays, Zabb...) This history must not be forgotten! Thanks for sharing it!

Gyedu Blay Ambuley started it all with rap mixed with highlife and called it "The simgua do" way back in the early 70's even before the Sugar Hill gangs came on the scene with rappers delight.

Back in the 1970`s at the top of the Osibisa band, Ambuley was doing the fusion of Jazz & African Skank he will often say a repetition of one word(sometimes unintelligible)we can assume its rap(that's how HIP HOP started)the Great Grand master FLASH started it(he will prolong just the `break` aka `beats`(of popular songs) so his Break-Dancers can come in and do their own thing ...then he will speak over the break beats (normally telling his audience names of those dancers and their moves)soon Grand Master Flash will just make extended music from the `Break beats" of popular songs for his dancers, all the time speaking over the beats,that was the birth of HIP HOP.Ambulley didn't name what he was doing ...it was Reggie Rockstone that gave a name to what he was doing(HIP-LIFE) which has stuck till today and have become a genre in music but we all know Ambulley is a great jazz rapper no one can take that from him.
If many musicians are doing simgwa rap then maybe that could also become a genre and Ambuley can be the father of SIMGWA DO RAP. but please Reggie gave out the name so he`s the originator of Hiplife ...but before then Reggie was calling it RAPAPELLA...if he had stuck to that name ...it would have been rapapella instead till today and not hiplife .Thank you.

This is recorded history. It was first shown on SMASH TV on METRO TV. This is way before Reggie arrived in Ghana. Those guys from TALKING DRUMS were phenomenal. It was Kweku T and another guy. And PANJI produced it. The song was called ADEN. Reggie is simply an opportunist thief.
