So I opened a shop in Accra and stayed for three months to ensure that it was stabilized.The merchandise sold itself so I basically just had to show up, open the shop, turn on the music and start selling.I also put my private car into service as a taxi to help with providing for the extended family.I brought in my niece who is well educated but unemployed for over 4years to manage the shop when I left.She subsequently pulled the taxi out of service and had it repainted for private use and retained the driver who drove her around.Now,I am not a wealthy person and have had to hold down two very demanding jobs in the States just to be able to do what I had done.A friend I had asked to keep a discrete eye on things for me texted me about what was going on.When I asked her about the Taxi she said it was still working but not making much.By the time I was able to make it back a year and two months later the vehicle's engine was fried(she refused to change oil as required.The shop was on it's last legs and she had taken an unauthorized loan using the shop.I immediately sacked her and brought in workers who were not relatives.Because of this my own family are calling me wicked.They asked me if I expected a university graduate to take a bus or trotro to the shop.I have learnt my lesson.I just wish I had invested my hard earned money in the states rather wasting it on these ungrateful and spoilt people.

I understand her differently. Driving on bus to and fro Accra and Cape Coast for lectures is not a joke. I used the bus and the subway to attend classes when I was student in the United States. Getting out of Accra, in those days, was not easy - bad road coupled with heavy traffic. The settings i,e Germany and Ghana, are completely different.
