Allocating money to pay the Trash collecting companies to collect the trash and dispose of it will greatly help. This perennial spectacle demonstrate a very low collective intellect of us as a people. Do we have the human capacity to think and plan ahead? We should all bow our heads in shame. Citizenry lacks discipline and expects the government to clean after them. Government promises much and delivers almost nothing. The system simply is not working. Do we have enough time left to move in the right direction?

The drainage system in Texas at least mitigates the situation. If the Texas conditions are replicated with the same level of intensity, Accra will be under 10 feet of water. Let us deal with it in relative terms.

Accra drainage engineering has been poorly handled from the word go. This phenomenon has been complimented by property developers. There's little anybody can do in the meantime to salvage the situation if not completely hopeless. However, a permanent solution to flooding in Accra is the relocation of the administrative capital to a properly engineered and constituted area and making Accra itself a business center that will be linked to the administrative capital in a manner that will decongest the current city. We will then have the opportunity to properly engineer Accra and put it in a proper shape to avert some of these misfortunes. We are where we are because instead of putting pressure on our leaders to take the right decisions, we rather engage in hero worshipping. Have we not experience the same challenges before? Our problem as a nation is that we don't learn and plan, hence the kind of problem we face. We have sleeping leaders, dormant and irresponsible. God save us.
