I disagree with Afia's last comment. The fact is, government has too many misplaced priorities. If only there will be fiscal discipline in the system and resources channelled to appropriate institutions, this whole issue would not have arisen.
Secondly, the second lady was rude and clueless about what happens in various sectors of the economy, notably, the education sector. It is nonsense to expect teachers to tighten their belts whilst baboons have a fields day. How much is a teacher's salary? how much does State Protocol spend on the 2nd lady's home and upkeep? How long can the state expect to pass the back on PTA's after they have paid their wards fees etc? If government can not manage schools in the country, it should stop playing the ostrich and revert schools to the private sector.
Matilda is lucky the headmistress she addressed is not the fire-brand type like Mr Asante (former GNAT General Secretary). If she does not remember, she should ask J. J. Rawlings what Mr Asante did to him when J. J sought to denigrate his authority. In deed, if Matilda is what she is today, she must give thanks to her teacher.
I urge GNAT to stand solidly by their colleague and if possible they should lay down their tools. Matilda's apology is not sincere; listen carefully to her statement. There is not a single remorse in her apology, a sign of a disobedient student. How can such rude 'pupil' be a good role model for others in our society. Matilda deserves to be treated with the utmost disdain. Dare you talk back to a teacher in a public space with such utmost disrespect; for heaven's sake, this is a headteacher who is confronted with the daily administration of her school. Matilda and her cronies can not tell me the honourable headmistress does not liaise with her district office. For all Matilda cares to know, the headmistress must be using her own resources to ply the district office now and again. I dare Matilda to prove to the whole country that this headmistress is reimbursed for her travels; for how long can she be relying on PTA's in her community?
Obviously, Matilda has no sense of diplomacy, hence her crude and rude response to a harmless question. It is silly if not vexatious for her to politicise the question. How can Ghana develop with everything been politicised? Yet, this is the wife of our Vice President who claims he has the development of the country at heart. Look here Matilda, Ghana can never develop if she does not take the education of its young generation seriously. No country develops that way. You better learn your lessons properly; there is a reason why countries invest so much in basic education. If you want to be an agent of change you do not destroy your tools for executing that change. If you can not do what you claim to do, endeavour to change your job or role; I hope this advice seats well in your right ear.
