It was the early 70's.She was commonly known as "soul sister" in my hometown.She was beautiful, had won several beauty and dancing contests in my hometown.She was full of pride. She was then the eye of the town.Every young man wanted to date her.Old men alike.It was rumoured the magistrate at the time wanted to date her as well.His attempts hit a snafu! This magistrate would not take it kindly.
At our busy lorry station one day, "soul sister" will pick up a fight with another girl for unknown reasons. This girl reports to the nearby railway police "soul sister" wanted to or stole her purse.She would be arrested, remanded and arraigned before this same magistrate next day.Immediate sentence as is expected? 3 months prison term with hard labour at Obuasi prisons. We were young, stupid and very ignorant. No one including me understood till this very day.....until now.
So the question of these judges... it seems to me..has been in existence for a very long time. It has just come to light, thanks to a "saviour" Anas. So if our friend " soul sister" is reading this, my only advice " shed no more tears". Justice has finally come no matter how long it has taken.
