Rather it is you- the filthy and character flawed one, who is quick to thrash Ghana.One thing I can say with certainty is that the filthy fabric in which you try hard to cloak Ghana- the great nation, will come undone through the power of discernment.

Your awareness of Idris Elba's work, doesn't negate the fact that he is part Ghanaian. If the likes of you are tolerated in Ghana, because you

2. Are we ready to shed our duality in the existentialist context ?

My response to the first question is that, the education we got was not meant to empower us with critical thinking. Its prime objective was to condition us into servitude, during and after the "master" is long gone.Granted we are in charge- doubtfully so, but our leaders have never seen a need to change the situation to benefit us all.They are direct beneficiaries of the skewed system, thus their desire to keep it so. Now we are witnessing a game of musical chairs where each leading political party waits its turn to milk the electorate. You better not be too hard on the defeated party in any elections, because you could be in that situation very soon. Until the "people" rise up and demand accountability in every facet of society, the condition will continue to deteriorate.

The second question is meant to tease us all into recognition of the duality of our world view. It is one thing having a core culture and advancing it according to the challenges of the times. However, bouncing between a native and foreign culture,as we seem to be doing, is an indication of identity crisis. If we were informed by our traditions that there is a god for rain, agriculture, health etc. It should be quite clear- thanks to the age of empirical and analytical reasoning (science) that the old belief is losing its appeal. Why then do our leaders keep falling back on old practices, like the one you mentioned about the Yoruba ? My answer is power. They will use whatever means- modern or not, to keep people down until they rise up and challenge the status quo.

Abeku, we Africans are not unique in this state. In medieval Europe, the King was the end all be all, as they say. They were the authority in any observation and phenomena, until brave scientists like Galileo challenged long held notions (the world is flat) with a well reasoned explanation. Now we are all beneficiaries of such bravery.

In the end, we must fail "forward" with what we know both innately and learned. It is then, that we will feel very comfortable adapting, casting off or fusing old and new for the better. After all any non/religious approach to life, places humanity at the center, so the truth can come from any quarter. Nothing thus stops us from creating something better with what we know from both worlds.
