May I ask you what you saw in John Mahama for you to campaign for him. Your (ewes, I mean) hatred for Akans and especially Ashantis has led your breed into a crusade to destroy Ghana; and you're doing very well in that regard. Your people are among the poorest in the country, if not the poorest, but you hate those who will develop your region and lift your people from poverty because you dislike where they come from. Sad to say this but i had to say it.I guess Leila's post is referring to the supremacist in the NPP. Ever since some of you emerged on Ghana web you had never seized to openly display your hatred of your political nemesis namely jerry Rawlings and the NDC, Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP. At the same professsing your support for the NPP and anything of Danqua/Busia tradition.

Your cannot stop telling us of your love for the NPP and your willingness to die for it yet when an Ewe does the same by declaring his support for the NDC it all of a sudden becomes a crime towards humanity. Is this democracy we claim to practice for Akans alone? Are other tribes but particularly Ewes forbidden from participating in this so called democracy? Dont they have a choice to go where they feel comfortable?

Some of the Akan NPPs usually hide behind the Rawlings revolution and often use that as a basis for hating Ewes. Does Rawlinsg represent all Ewes? Were members of other tribes not in the Rawlings government?

I do not live in Ghana and have never voted for any political party and do not intend to vote in the future, I therefore do not care about this NDC/NPP crap but the nonsense and hatred must seize.

From my observations this Ewe hatred seems to extend beyond Rawlings, most of our Twi speaking folks see as a threat. Why should it be so? Is evil not present in all parts of Ghana? Come one folks lets allow common sense to prevail and put an end to all these emotional effusions.

I wonder if any if you would feel proud to belong to a party whose media men cant stop writing articles that openly denigrate their tribes as Okoampa does on a daily basis. All im saying is people should have a right to vote which ever party they choose to vote without been attacked. It happens in all democracies.

First of all, Ewes have been occupying parts of the VR for upward of 600 years. When they arrived, the Akyems were no where near as their neighbours, as they were very farther west. Likewise the Akwamus who were also far away, with base as Nyanoase near Nsawam or so. The closest Akans were the Kwawus across the Volta river in the Afram Plains. It was much easier to cross the Volta there. The Chokosis coould have emerged from that group. They seem to be the first to settle among Ewes and the other small linguistic groups in the VR who were the original inhabitants.

The Akyems first came to the Eweland as fugitives after the defeat of Osei Kwame in 1763 or so by the Asantes. the Akwamus came much earlier after their defeat by the combined forces of the Gas and Akyems in 1730s.

The Akyems, under Gen. Dompey, only helped the northern Ewes to fight against the slave raiding and plundering Asantes under Adu Bofo and their allies, the Akwamus, and some Ewe states.

I shall present the full details of these events at the appropriate time.

Francosoft, I think it is not sensible at all to label ALL Akans he way you are doing, knowing damn well that a large section of the Akan pop. identify with the NDC and other parties, and therefore are not part of these viral lot from within the NPP. Ever since you emerged on Ghana web you had never seized to openly display your hatred of your political nemesis namely jerry Rawlings and the NDC, Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP. At the same professsing your support for the NPP and anything of Danqua/Busia tradition.

Over the last 10 years on Ghana web you had never seized to preach and pour more fuel into the tribal schism in Ghana through your numerous articles by your writings that portray Akans and particularly Akyems in a positive light whiles running down other tribes, sometimes even extending the hate to your fellow Asantes but particularly Anlo Ewes.

Your cannot stop telling us your love for the NPP yet when an Ewe does the same by declaring his support for the NDC it all of a sudden becomes a crime towards humanity. Is this democracy we claim to practice for Akans alone? Are other tribes but particularly Ewes forbidden from participating in this so called democracy?

Some of the Akan NPPs usually hide behind the Rawlings revolution and often use that as a basis for hating Ewes. Does Rawlinsg represent all Ewes? Were members of other tribes not in the Rawlings government?

I do not live in Ghana and have never voted for any political party and do not intend to vote in the future, I therefore do not care about this NDC/NPP crap but the nonsense and hatred must seize.

From my observations this Ewe hatred seems to extend beyond Rawlings, most of our Twi speaking folks see as a threat. Why should it be so? Is eveil not present in all parts of Ghana? Come one folks lets allow common sense to prevail and put an end to all these emotional effusions.

Didn't many non-Ewes also support and campaign for the NDC cos it stood for certain causes? But why should some people deduce that Leila did so cos she's an Ewe and if the NDC is not meeting those causes/standards and she said so, some bigots should start pointing to her being an Ewe? From there, she went on to give an example of people using names which can be identified as "Asante" and mischievously concluded that all of those people should also be Asante and NPP supporters. They are quick to point out that Busia wasn't an Asante, nor Kwabena Agyapong one, but when they fight their cause, they are happy! It is an undeniable fact that some Asantes form the core around which all these bigots congregate. And it is also a truism that as much as 33% of "Asantes" don't subscribe to that ethnocentric "we are proud Asantes and superior to all others" nonsense! That's for dummies!

Leila said it in a few words, capturing it in a nutshell, just her as her thoughtful films do. Take for instance, the often heard claim that Ewes are from Togo and so not Ghanaians. It took me several pages to debunk that in my article, How Some "Ewes" Became a Part of Modern Ghana. Leila simply poke fun at it in a few words.

It took me another 6 pages to debunk thew claim that Asantes look downs upon Ewes and Northerners because the latter don't go to school like the Asantes. Haven't posted that one yet, being a part of a bigger project still on ice.

All that they are doing is to spew their ignorant prejudices for all to read, the very thing Leila was condemning.

And im not making these up since some of them have openly written these stuff in their articles esp Kwame Okoampa Ahoofe, a relative of Nana Addo. Some of our Akan brothers and sisters had never seized to openly display your hatred of their political nemesis namely jerry Rawlings and the NDC, and Kwame Nkrumah and the CPP. At the same time professsing their support for the NPP and anything of Danqua/Busia tradition.

They cannot stop telling us how they love the NPP and ready to die for it yet when an Ewe does the same by declaring his support for the NDC it all of a sudden becomes a crime towards humanity.

Is this democracy we claim to practice for Akans alone? Are other tribes but particularly Ewes forbidden from participating in this so called democracy? Dont they have a choice to go where they feel comfortable without been tagged with all sorts of hateful descriptions?

Some of the Akan NPPs usually hide behind the Rawlings revolution and often use that as a basis for hating Ewes. Does Rawlinsg represent all Ewes? Were members of other tribes not in the Rawlings government?

I do not live in Ghana and have never voted for any political party and do not intend to vote in the future, I therefore do not care about this NDC/NPP crap but the nonsense and hatred must seize.

From my observations this Ewe hatred seems to extend beyond Rawlings, most of our Twi speaking folks seem to see Ewes as a threat. Why should it be so? Is evil not present in all parts of Ghana? Come on folks lets allow common sense to prevail and put an end to all these emotional effusions.

If I was an Ewe and constantly read articless that openly insuls and at times calls for violence towards Ewes as often written by Okoampa and called upon by Ken Agyapong how comfortable will I be voting for such a party? I cant even stand the guts of insanities as Okoampa how then do I even sit in the same oarty conference with him?

When Wreko Brobey speaks against the NPP he a fool, if Tamakloe does the same he does so on tribal bais. What sort of emotional reasoning is this?

When I look at the Volta region, my heart weeps and keeps asking myself what are we gaining for always voting NDC. We will vote now for parties with development in mind for the region. Does the writer really know the history of the people of the territory presently called Ghana? No, a big no! Otherwise this ignoramuses' claim of Ewes being added to Ghana in 1956 by Nkrumah for election purposes wouldn't have been made...For example, The fact is that Ewes (Anlos) and Ushant's are historical blood brothers in the sense that they were allies in war in prehistoric times ie in the 17th, 18th centuries and Ashanti and Anlo even bonded to fight the Ga and others. So Ewes were always a part and parcel of happenings and developments in the territory! Where this artificial hatred for each other came from is baffling! It may be an inferiority complex cloaked in a false superiority complex on both ignoramus Ashanti and ignoramus Ewe sides! And, hey! No one should attack me saying I am using an Akan name to hide being an Ewe..it is my real name and whether I am Akan or Ewe is irrelevant!

If we had been speaking face to face, would you have dared use that insulting word? Anyway, I know ver, very, very very very well that the name is not Ashanti, but rather Asante! But the usually and commonly used name is Ashanti! Just like Sunyani is wrong..Ask the Brongs! And Frafra is wrong! But back to the issue-Ashantis should research into history and culture and see that Anlo Ewes and Ashantis, and Ashantis and Mossis are really allies and brothers and this is anecdotally shown in the Anlo Awomefia being one of the Chief Mourners for every Asantehene or as I faintly remember, not everyone is granted access to the hollies of hollies ie. black stool room upon the death of an Asantehene, but an Ewe chief (Anlo)is always a member of the team that enters it on such occassions to perform rites! But, hey.. People say Ewes are tribalistic actually because when Ewes meet a fellow brother they speak Ewe, which inward-looking other language hating Ashantis of course don't understand! Then they think the superficial show of "Nye broism" is tribalism! Hey! On the contrary! Ewes don't help each other like Akans do! An Akan abroad will help his kin and tribesman to join him/her there, Ewes no! I have seen it had in my work when birth certificates bearing the name of a particular one Akan town or village passed through my hands for travels to Italy! Organized help, mi nwaism! Compared to only one Ewe birth certificate in that period from an Ewe. And this fact was confirmed by a number of Akans I interviewed-yes we help each other they said! And one was even an organizer of such connection trips of his fellow Akan villagers. Ewes...NO! I could use other aspects of life but for lack of time!
