I strongly believe sex has a major role to play in every marriage. If sex is not happening in a marriage - so many can and will go wrong.

In this modern age, all the components you have referenced above do have a special sexual sub-component that needs to be addressed. In fact, sex is the trump card in every relationship. If it is not happening right or properly, the couples start cheating on each other and this brings about instability and eventually destruction of the union.

Lest I forget, some people will like to throw in the LOVE component but, trust me, love does not exist in this modern world. Today, if love is mentioned or discussed, then it is about lust and not the real love as you might want to believe.

Love died a long time ago when the internet and cell phones were invented.

Please check and come out with the stats. Christians have the highest divorce rate in the world. The success of everything in this universe, including marriage is the strict observance of very very simple natural laws which most of the various religious leaders, prophets, messengers and sages have thought. Why we mostly fail in things we do including marriage is that we follow dogma and refuse to think not principles. There are atheists who have experience success in their marriages. What does one attribute that to?

the 2 individuals must believe and trust in the institution of marriage. what do i mean by that? well, love is a committment...u know, like how u are committed to a 2 yr phone plan? its the same with marrigae. when u marry, u sign a contract. can u stick with the contract? do u have the discipline? can u respect yourself and ur partner and stick with the contract u both have signed? that is what marriage ia about....too often, we have indisciplined ppl signing contracts with no intention of sticking with the plan they have signed. can u stick with the contract u have signed thru the low $$$ times and the good $$$$ times? can u stick with the contract thru job losses and ill health? love is a commitment and so is marriage and it requires discipline, unselfishness and unconditional care for each other. the minute one party begins to have second thoughts about sticking with the contract. thats when problems begin to occur.......i know a african cdn man over here in toronto who has 3 kids with his girl and they are all homeless, living in a shelter. i know they are on drugs also. beats me why the man/woman havent abandoned each other as of yet....its all about commiting to each other NO MATTER WHAT

Marriage is purely understanding between a male man and female man. From the time of Adam God has never chosen a husband or wife for any body. This is becos the institution is basically about choice. Please don't let us overburden our failing marriage partners with the notion that better marriages depend on the intervention of Jesus Christ! As mentioned earlier by another commentator, there were good and long lasting marriages in Ghana, and Africa for that matter, before the whiteman came with his religion. The main problem is that newly married couples today don't take them serious the many mundane and repetitive advices that are professed during marriage and wedding ceremonies, not to mention the standard "counselling" they get from pastors and other church officials before these ceremonies. Besides, either due to their status in society, the exigence of their parents or friends, they go into a spending spree for their engagement, marriage and wedding ceremonies, ending up with bills and loans they cannot pay! Consequently, their marriage starts on a shifting sand. The good news is that in our modern world, no matter the state of one's marriage, there are still opportunities out there - through radio and TV programmes, books, advice from caring parents, etc. - to improve the situation. There is so much more those of us who are "successfully married" can propagate but let's end here for now.
