I'm a Ghanaian man (previously legally and happily married) until my ex wife finished nursing school here in the new jersey, USA.
Then she started verbally abusing me and calling the police and lied to them and tried to put domestic violence on my record to prevent me from getting my papers.
She moved out of our house with the kids and wouldn't allow me to see the kids no matter how hard I tried.

And she went about saying I have neglected my kids, and she fed the kids with lies and hatred for me.

Yvonne, I will advise you not to believe everything your mother told you concerning your dad but rather reach out to him and humble yourself before him and TRUST me... he will tell you things your mother never told you and will never tell you.

based on what your mum told you, have you taken the time with your dad to know what was the reason he wasn't there? Maybe your mum didn't want hi around. A lot of women prefer to be single mums. They only need their eggs fertilized by men and after that don't have the need for a man anymore. Your mum probably wanted a child but not a husband. Did your mum marry again after your dad, this can answer some the of questions you need to know. Your mum have had ample time with you to say things to make your dad look bad, whether they are true remained to be seen but I can tell this, whatever created this situation in your upbringing can't only be your dad's fault. Ask her family's involvement, the role they played in the collapse. I doubt your parents were even married.
Yvonne grow up, let go of this animosity toward your dad, delve deep into what precipitated this unfortunate situation, weigh both sides without prejudice and see where you can go from there. I can see this thing is eating you badly, it is probably disturbrng your dad also.
This is not the first time we are hearing stuff like this, many have turned up not to be as the mothers have told them. Create and find peace with your self. Best Wishes
