You only don't tell your partner about you past if you think what you did back them was not right. Assuming you were a school prefect or you sold on the street to pay your fees and has made you who you are, wouldn't you be proud to mention it to your partner? It's more like saying don't tell your children your past. Good things need to be told.

If he loves you, he would put it in the past like most people do. If you wait for him to find out, you'd be considered untrustworthy, dishonest and shady.
