Since Ghana does not have the heavy machines you can design something and send it to wherever you want to be cut and polish for you. So there is nothing wrong if Kantanka send their design to be cut and polish for them in China or wherever they can get a good deal. It is up to the Government and the banks to give Kantanka the loan to build their own plant here in Ghana and stop talking them down. Germans own the Land Rover but everything is made in the UK. Holland bought Albion from UK and named it DAF for themselves. So kantanka if they have the money can buy the plant from China to produce their own cars. Where did China got all their early manufacturing plant from: they are either from the UK, Germany, Japan, USA etc. Out of those plants they can now build new plants to even export to those countries they copied from and this is evidence to all of us, so either we help Kantanka as GHanaians by way of Finance to acquire their own equipments or leave them to do deals to who ever is ready to help them achieve their goals. I recently met a man who came to work in my house. In our discussions he made a statement, "you see the nice looking Chevy models these days, Toyota design it for them." He said it jokingly but he may be right. The fact is this. No manufacturer uses only his own made parts. Each manufacturer depends on another manufacturer. This is something the writer ought to know. Ghanaians are too known, we talk too much, we shoot ourselves almost all the time, and we pull down ourselves so often. My problem is why do we do that? A puzzle to fix.

That's the difference here: sadly some Ghanaians don't see the difference between 'Assembled In....' and 'Made in ...'. Similarly, Nissan has an assembly plant in Sunderland, U.K. The last time I checked Nissan models rolling off the Sunderland assembly plant are not labelled 'Made in U.K.' These Nissan cars are spoken of in the UK business press as assembled in UK or Britain. Mr Safo deserves support and encouragement, however a spade must be called a spade. Deception, if wilful as it appears in this Kantanka case, is corruption and must be condemned.

What you people should be doing is asking for purchase plans or possible discounts if the prices are high, a test drive report to convince yourselves the vehicles are very safe. The Ford Euroranger was designed in Australia, manufactured and assembled in Thailand in a Ford-Mazda JV Plant and shipped worldwide except USA, for sale to users. Kantanka had previously made various prototype equipment and gadgets but may not have found sponsors until the Chinese stepped in. BTW, there are lots of Chinese quality products the world over. Ghana RT Briscoe and UAC Motors designed and built the Adom and Boafo pickups but they have vanished.
Suame artisans made a pickup with Danish Support but nothing has been heard of that again. Let us support our local entrepreneurs to produce Ghana goods at affordable prices. Critics do some search, please before knocking heads. Suame does crazy things to some home-used vehicles and we patronise them gleefully!

Do you think Toyota as a company built all that? Ignorance, ignorance, ignorance. Go ask all the auto manufacturers, and they will tell you that almost every part comes from else where. For example, Toyota as a company may manufacture some of the parts, but a bulk of the parts also come from other companies. In fact, GM or Ford may even ask Toyota to build a complete car in their name for them. In all these, there is nothing wrong. Do you know that in America, Mecedes Benz is built by Chrysler? Please, if you are not in to encourage the man, leave him alone to do his job.

If we think well about the progress of our country, we would rather support this company to "assemble" for all our MDA's and all our government institutions. And the next decade they could be producing for us.

Does the writer know the genesis to each brand of car. The Mercedes benz, Toyota to name a few have some many companies, including tyres, glasses, gear boxes etc. The brand names just assemble.
I have lived in Germany for 20 yearso and worked at assembly plants for Benz. There is no manufacturer who can demonstrate how each part is made.
The write perhaps has no knowledge in cars and how they are made so he give us a break.

What I see is a very sinister and ingenious way of discrediting the company and its products. The vehicles are only assembled in Ghana - so what? If we had other locally consumed products being produced or assembled in Ghana in a similar way, thete won't be so much unemployment in the country.
The article is a waste of time and space and achieved nothing. My simple advice to the writer is to tell the world about what he/ she has done to help solve the problem of unemployment in Ghana.

My main concern however is with how Kantanka speaks of the ingenuity of the African mind an how God has blessed the black man and so on. This is a real let down for someone who is always claiming 100% the source of his invention.
On the plus side yes he's providing jobs and with the support of Ghanaians this could even be the seed of an automobile industry in Ghana. So what if the Chinese are taking advantage of us? Would we rather he did nothing at all to Improve the technical know how of Ghanaians? We have university graduates trained in mechanical engineering and the likes who have to leave the country because the institutions here aren't developed.

Then again, it is safer to praise the 'car-maker' than to criticise him otherwise people will ask 'you are criticising the man, what have you done before?'... So to avoid all that one has to either shut up or praise him.
3. Since we have less known science and tech fairs, his stands out even if the equipment don't meet standards.
4. I get one thing from your article/report, you just want him to acknowledge that they're not 'made-in-Ghana' but 'assembled-in-Ghana'.

Sarfo buys parts just like every other car manufacturers and assemble them here in Ghana. Assembling is not the same as importing because you need expertise to assemble but you only need to have a place to put the imported goods . These cars are MADE IN GHANA but the parts were possibly bought from China. They weren't assembled (made) in China just made. There's a big difference there. Take note. If not then you are trying to say Apple products do not belong to Apple but to the various manufacturers of the different parts.

Which was accepted because there was no internet or phones and also not every student had a post office box... Have we forgotten 207 cars? Yet Ghanaians are afraid to sit in Kantanka cars. You can google Black Manufacturers in the world and you will marvel to see the kind of products which were made by purely black humans. Even if a Chinese company has a link with Kantanka Company the cars are still made in Ghana and I can prove to you that one company's FINISHED PRODUCT is another company's RAW MATERIAL. For example TOYOTA Company does not manufacture all the materials it uses for its cars. I am sure they order their tyres, glass for their windscreens and even the metal they use to build their engines are all purchased from from other companies. Bakers do not cultivate the wheat neither do themselves process the wheat into white flour. NO, they buy the flour (which is another company's finished product) and use as their raw materials to make bread and so Kantanka cars are genuinely MADE IN GHANA.
