  This is a cheap and confused article. My little children used to make this statement. "why buy a cow if you can get milk for free". Personally it denigrates womanhood. It is very healthy to have these articles though. Why would a woman who is married be in a hurry to remove her ring which is what they all want? How can marriage be advocated and in the same vein glorifying removal of ring by women?
  
  Marriage under the microscope has two dimensions. Women who are less well-off wishes to get married very quickly or rather are pushed into pressurising their "men" into marriage with the "fast removal of the ring" in mind. Men, who are well-off are sceptical that their women will fall into this trap of wanting the rings off as quickly as possible. It becomes a paranoia.
  
  Some boyfriends provide their girlfriends with monthly allowances in excess of what some husbands bring home as salary. Some boyfriends do set up their girlfriends in business but that does not seem enough for them to enjoy any respect. The tag will almost hover around of the woman being used because of the absence of MARRIAGE. Most boyfriends in this category are the once married type of men. They are generous financially but once bitten twice shy. They support their women and the women know they are being supported. The pressure in the main may not even be coming from the women but from external sources.
  
  Married when emerging from youth has never being a problem as LOVE underpins the union and both parties knows that. Sexual generosity is even taken for granted and becomes the buzz word in the union.
  
  Our Ga ancestors told us that when women are given in marriage, part dowries are paid and the union bears several fruits. It will be several years before marriage proper is formalised at which time whatever wealth has been built remains in the marriage of man woman and children even a polygamous marriage. The children will be of age.
  
  Are we now to infer that men have a culture of sending their women packing after some few years without benefit of marriage proper that they do not deserve respect until such time?
  
  Marriage proper at point of contact was handed down to the African by Missionaries and perhaps for good measure. When a man and woman works together to develop common wealth, the wealth must be shared when it becomes necessary to part ways which although rare do happens.
  
  In our modern century, boyfriends as captured in the European concept of "civil partnership" shy of marriage has become the norm. In this relationship the male in majority of cases takes full care of the female, her physiological and spiritual needs to the best of his ability - supports her medical bills and even some form of support to children the female already has. Does he still not need respect?
  
  Ghollywood and Nollywood has highlighted an increasing spate of young men behind most failed marriages and these push for marriage proper so that in the end the female decides to walk out of the union - which will not be long, there will be a booty to take with her for mutual benefit. The concept is therefore, a man's hard earned money goes to support some young lad who is just appearing from nowhere. If the union was a boyfriend/girlfriend type, there is nothing much at stake for the pushers who wish to ruin the relationship.
  
  I once met an Australian woman in the United Kingdom who indicated that she was with her boyfriend for seven years and soon after they got married, it was over in two years. It calls for wisdom but nobody really will understand. Our forebears lived happily in customary marriages and wealth generated remained in the family until this new phenomenal called late life marriage where the groom is partially old and wealthy.
  
  I maintain that it is an insult to likened a relationship to buying a cow whilst having free milk. In history only few women will remain in a relationship which does not recognise their presence hence devoid of support of any description. No one will tell such a woman to advise herself.
  
  Do not throw your boy friend overboard to please modern concepts too early if you are happy in the union.

  Not all situations are the same..when u fall in love with someone who needs help to get on her feet it wd be stupid not to help her..i dont get it..thats your opinion anyway.
