There's no doubt about the abundance of talents in the Ghanaian music industry however, a host of them are satified and ofcourse praised by Ghanaians themselves for doing a good job for how much closest they copy an existing popular music elsewhere. For example EL's hit song that won him artist of the year is a perfect copy of rhythm and lyrical style of an already existing Nigerian music, this same music when played in Nigeria draws a lot of laughter for its lack of originality. Shatta Wale is described as top class dancehall artist because of his artistry in mimicking Jamaican raeguae artists and every Ghanaian is in jubilant a world class artist in Shatta Wale has emerged yet, he draws laughter when his music is played across the borders for trying to be more Jamaican that the Jamaican originators of dancehall music. Whenever a Ghanaian music is played in the Southern and East African countries; it is mistaken for music coming from Nigeria because they sound in rhythm and lyrical style of Nigerian musicians. Most wedding events in Ghana in recent times play Nigerian music to entertain their guests so the upcoming Ghanaian musicians copy almost perfectly the same style and rhythm and brand it a Ghanaian version of an existing music from their Nigerian originators. The Congolese have their sikki music that has remained unique to their culture and has crossed over the Atlantic into continents all over the world and continued to be identified with Congos. The Senegalese have done same in Yousouf Ndou, The Malians are unique in their style led by Salif Keita. The South African sound is unique and undoubtedly sound South African. The Nigerians have developed their styles which has caught up with the Western world clamouring for collaborations with Nigerian artists. The Ivorians have their styles too, even the Camerounean music is unique in their rhythm and style. Why is Ghana picking beats and sounds around and across Africa, rebrand it in local language and call it Ghanaian music, there are several local rhythm and lyrical styles across all tribes that could be developed into a uniquely Ghanaian sound that are left undeveloped but rather chose to copy others from South Africa, Nigeria, Jamaica, America etc. It is no surprise Ghanaian artists despite their talent have become second rated to their peers across the borders cos, they have refused to developed what is their own but rather strive to be copycat masters of other peoples works. Most of the sounds that Nigerian artists churn out are developed from local rural musical tunes of the Uhrobo music, the Yoruba local tunes, the Calabars music, local tunes from the riverine Niger Deltans, local tunes from Port Harcourt territories etc. so why are Ghanaian musicians becoming too lazy and Westernised so they coukd easily copy other peoples work and expect to be recognised, it doesn't happen easily like that in the entertainment industry, you just have to create an identity for your works to be so recognised. If Nigerians sing in pidgin English its because pidgin English apart ftom other local language is the second largest spoken language in Nigeria outside English language, its not for nothing that it has filtered into Nigerian music therefore it has become cultural than just style which Ghanaian musicians now copy blindly. Hope the Ghanaian artists stop the copy work and try to be original cos that's the only way they could restore their indentity and be recognise outside the borders like their peers from elsewhere.

I'm Ghagerian and have lived in both countries and I can tell everything boils down to the weakness of the Ghana economy. You need money to push talent and Ghanaians simply don't have it? How many Ghanaians are among Africa's richest? How many Ghanaian companies are among Africa's top 100?

How many GH doctors are known across Africa? Sorry Badoe wrote Africa's number one surgery textbook.
But my point is you can't single out the musicians.
The major reason why Nigerian music is all over Africa is that Nigerian individuals and companies exist everywhere and take Nigerian culture with them which they promote where they are. Ghanaian companies are no where to be found even in Ghana before we even mention outside Ghana. Glo brought so many Nigerian celebrities for events in Ghana likewise the Nigerian banks and sponsored promotion for them in GH media. Which Ghanaian company can do that in Kenya?

I'm one of those Nigerians that like Ghanians music as I have so many Ghanians in my family so I can't just get away from it day by day. Average Ghanaian artists will be happy for other artists to fail. Too much enviness and jealousy . Just way too much. They need to support any artists that's doing well like sarkordie , Shata wale and stonebowy instead trying to pull them down all the time

erm let me say most of our artist copy the west too much n fail to appreciate thier culture. That is why Sarkodie will use afrocentric line to diss in his song forgetting that will make him
unique and tell where he is coming from.Davido will do a collabo with a big star like Mick Mil and eat 3ba, wear African print to show what Nigeria also has.just look at how they shoot thier videos and the locations.listen to Diamond platinumz song and watch his videos, projecting Tanzania .Not even to say how they speak on various red carpet shows when they are being interviewed, they don't forget thier tonation, but Ghanaian artist would always want sound like American, where lies ur identity.dancing shorki forgetting they have azonto and they turn to blame the djs for not playing thier songs.
your here in Ghana doing hip-hop, can u do it better than lil Wayne or Jay-Z? whiles u have highlife which is what belongs to u that u can do n do it better n sell it to the world.
If so then why single out one artist, fool
That don't have what it takes to get their.
