My friendship with two Northerners fell apart because of a similar incident years ago.We (group of six friends-3Ashantis,1Fanti and 2 Northerners) usually met by the side of my father's Pharmacy in the evening to watch and try to chat up the beautiful girls that walked by.This enjoyable pasttime was equally participated by all of us until one day a Northerner girl came by.Suddenly our two Northerner friends became offended that we gave her the same treatment as every other girl that came by.The funny thing was that the more they acted funny the heavier the girl fell for my Fanti friend.Then the two tried to sabotage it and even threaten the girl in Hausa.The hypocrisy was obviously unbearable to the rest of us.When we confronted them about this they said it was forbidden in their religion.I had some choicy words for them and their religion which that ended our friendship.Even one of their fathers attempted to reconcile us but the trust was gone.I am not saying all Northerners behave this way but they are the only tribe in Ghana that typically behaves like that.

But do not assume that travelling necessarily makes you better. values are values. Indeed, it is dangerous for people not properly grounded in the right values and culture, as I assume you are, to travel and have to learn a culture you have had no previous contact with. The result of it is confusion and you do come across as confused.
