Cotton grows in drier or semi arid areas like the Northen Ghana and the Costal shrubs.That is the reason why Ewe and Northern old ladies know how to tread cotton. Native cloth is woven in all tribes of the North and in Agbozume and Agortime in Eweland. Kente was derived from the instructional words in the Agortime looms: 'kee'- meaning open and 'tee'- meaning press. It was during the Ashanti- Ewe was that the Agortime weavers were captured by the Asantes and taken to their village to teach them how to weave the Agbamedo as the ordinary motif is called as well as the Adanudo, the multicoloured motif. Kindly go to Agortime Kpetoe today and you will hear the instructional words of 'kee- tee' as the youth are taken through the apprentishipof kente weaving. The Asantes should stop lying to us.
