There is no history necessarily made because this is not the first time Ghana has submitted a film to the Oscars. Ghana has had Oscar accreditation since 2011. The organization that was approved by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to submit films on behalf of Ghana to the Foreign Language Film Category then, is Ghana Academy of Film and Television Arts (GAFTA). This is the second time we will be submitting to the Oscars.
Correction, the last time an African Film won the Best Foreign Language Film Category at the Oscars was in 2006 with the South African Film, Tsotsi. The last time an African film was nominated was in 2015 with the Mauritanian film, Timbuktu
