I don't know the specific circumstances of Nana and I know some foolish men who feel threatened by a woman's ambitions. But some women are also delusional. I gave up everything to encourage a woman's career, sometimes at my own expense. At the end of the day, when I chose silence as my response to her petsistent physical and vetbal abuses, she and her mum accused me of being jealous of her job! This was shocking because at the time I was involved in projects she wasn't even qualified to handle. Of course, this didn't stop me from continuing to support her career. But neither did my continuing to do so end her delusional accusations. On the contrary, as her career progressed, she saw her promotions not as an opportunity to celebrate the hard work we had both invested to make that possible, but rather as an opportunity to spite and taunt me. For a long time, I struggled to understand this woman's psychology until I discovered that both she and the mother had this notion that if your man became more successful, he'd dominate you. So, in effect, she had turned the marriage into a turf for competition. Even her abuses were a way to convince herself, prove to her mother, that she was asserting herself! I'm sorry to say that a woman who thinks tbis way is no less foolish than a man who feels intimidated by his woman's success!
