The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, Dr.Samuel Yaw Annor, is calling for a renewed debate on Senior High School duration for better analysis on whether or not it should be extended with primary focus on adequately equipping students for the job market.
According to him, the current education system of Ghana needs a paradigm shit to ensure that senior high school students get practical kills to help end the quagmire of unemployment.
Dr. Annor said this when speaking at the 50th anniversary, Speech and Price given Day of Koforidua Senior Technical School (SECTEC) as guest speaker.
He questioned the impact of the current education system in Ghana juxtaposing with the type of Education system in Europe and other parts of the world which train students to equip them with practical Science, technical and vocation abilities to meet job specification
He therefore wants overhaul of the Ghana’s education system and replace with best practices in Europe and Asia.
He wondered why some foreign companies operating in Ghana import artisans from other countries to work in because the Ghanaian artisans do not have the industrial specified skills.
Dr.Annor said, this is a symptom that, there is something fundamentally wrong with the Education section in the country which must be diagnosed and fixed.
