Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has rejected accusations that President Nana Akufo-Addo attempted to distort the history of Ghana’s independence struggle.

The President has been accused of extolling the contributions of others in the struggle for independence above that of Ghana’s first President and founder of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr Kwame Nkrumah in his independence anniversary speech.

But Nana Obiri Boahen maintains that the president rather told the history as it is.

He noted that the NPP will continue to set the record straight on what he says is rather the thwarted history.

“Why are we distorting the history of this country and they think we will allow them to distort the history of this country? This time round we are also going to respond appropriately. On 1 July we will organise a symposium and set the records straight. Somebody bought the ticket of Dr Kwame Nkrumah [to come to Ghana]. …In the fullness of time, we will come out and tell the history of this country so people should stop distorting the history of this country. J.B Danquah played a role, Dombo played a role, Paa Grant played a role and Nii Kwabena Bonnie played a role,” he stated.
