Mike, how could NPP seek an injunction on the inauguration of John Mahama and by what means (legal and constitutional)? The Constitution makes provision for the President Elect to be sworn into office even if there is a challenge against his/her election at the Supreme and for the President once sworn into office to act as President in accordance with the Constitution until the Supreme Court decides otherwise. So how could have NPP obtained an injunction to stop the inauguration and at what court?

It is very unfortunate for you to suggest that if the Supreme Court is persuaded that NPP has presented credible evidence that have been interrogated by all parties and consequently the SC rules in favour of NPP, President Mahama will refuse to abide by the Supreme Court ruling because he controls the state machinery for oppression (the police and the military). If that is the case, then John Mahama is not fit to be President because the supreme law of the country is the Constitution and it says that the decision of the Supreme Court on such matters must be accepted. That is really scary to read from you. Is that what you expect will happen?

I am of the view that NPP's petition will not be successful based on information put in the public domain so far by the party. However, if some of the alleged irregularities are proven at the Supreme Court beyond any reasonable doubt then President Mahama and NDC should respect the decision of the Supreme Court. I hope writers use this forum to encourage the public to respect the rule of law in order to strengthen Ghana's democracy.
