I had just addressed this to Sarpong on Bannerman's post, and I think it is apt here in response to you and all of you out there who have been harping on this presumed Asante superiority complex vis a vis the inferiority of others to them. It is something which baffles me, for one who is used to be tog top on the block! Oh! Yeah! Where I grew up in Accra, he was the most senior staff, had the Mercedes benz by 1960 purchased from his own private resources before accepting even the govt post on contract which led to his financial ruination, only person with the day and night watchmen, the driver and aide de camp (he didn't accept the house maid), the whole colonial shebag! I never ever felt inferior to anyone! Methinks we were rather the object of envy, just as the rest of Ewes in public posts, while our region is among the most underdeveloped in terms of social facilities and job opps. A snr. guy from even my home town Anloga tired me while in Norway with talk of how privileged we were and they used to admire us! And he had already bought a house in Tema, built a garrage and parked a car in, while I hadn't bought a bike yet, as a fresh student arriving in Norway!

Anyway, this what I wrote. It addressed the subject of this post too.

Sarpong, why should everyone who criticises the actions/s of some Asantes be suffering from inferiority complex??? Towards whom? Asantes? What's so special about Asantes of today that anyone should feel inferior to them? Asantes of old? Could we even say those your ancestors used to plunder for slaves, ivories and other tributes feel inferior to them or detest and hate them? And those of us whose ancestors, regrettably, used to be allies of the Asantes in perpetrating that mayhem, genocide and plunder on the ancestors of some of our present fellow Ghanaians, why should we feel inferior to Asantes of today, when our ancestors never felt so?

Methinks, the very reason why some of us take exception to the postures some of you Asantes put out is embedded in this very heading of yours. And that crap the other fellow here in London put out. We Ewes are just sitting our somewhere peaceably and didn't ask Mahama to seek our protection anywhere but we are once again being insulted by heart! Way back in the '90s, I tackled the same issue of Asante superiority and the inferiority of others too. It is all based on a false sense and deep ignorance of Asante history accompanied by the warped, callous mentality associated with members of Africa's predatory, slave guzzling kingdoms of old, something often on display here; the history of others, how others live now, and the the pol. economy of Ghana. It was amazing to find out that even PhD holders like Kofi Ellison didn't know that cocoa is grown in the VR, and the VR was indeed the 3rd major producing region of cocoa during the colonial times! That's why ignorant idiots like that Katakyie Agyeman at Enfield can write that crap about Asantes feeding Voltarians and Northerners.

Anyway, there will be time to deal with the issue conclusively.

Tired of being broke and stuck in an unhappy marriage, a young Northerner husband decided to solve both problems by taking out a large insurance policy on his Ashanti wife and arranging to have her killed.

A "friend of a friend" put him in touch with a nefarious underworld figure, who went by the name of "Artie an Ashanti" Artie explained to the husband that his going price for snuffing out a spouse was 5,000 Cedis. The husband said he was willing to pay that amount, but that he wouldn't have any cash on hand until he could collect his wife's insurance money.

Artie insisted on being paid in part up front. The man opened up his wallet and displayed the single dollar bill that rested inside. Artie sighed, rolled his eyes, and reluctantly agreed to accept the dollar as down payment for the dirty deed.

A few days later, Artie followed the man's wife to the local shoprite grocery store. There, he surprised her in the produce department and proceeded to strangle her with his gloved hands. As the poor unsuspecting woman drew her last breath and slumped to the floor, the manager of the produce department stumbled unexpectedly onto the scene. Unwilling to leave any witnesses behind, Artie had no choice but to strangle the produce manager as well.

Unknown to Artie, the entire proceeding were captured by hidden cameras and observed by the store's security guard, who immediately called the police. Artie was caught and arrested before he could leave the store.

Under intense questioning at the police station, Artie revealed the sordid plan, including his financial arrangements with the hapless husband.

And that is why, the next day in the newspaper, the headline declared: "Artie chokes two for a dollar at Shoprite store."

All the fuss going around are being done by " the educated elite". They find it to be mouth-watered recipe which they cannot let go.

Our Northnern brothers have been interacting with Ashantis since we began recording history till later that one man pop up with garbage just to muddy a crystal clear water.

Ashanti region is the only region that harbors almost all tribes in Ghana. I will dare those making irresponsible and irrational comments about Ashantis, to go to the heart of Kumasi and questions those living in
Anloga town, Fanti New Town etc if they are being terrorized.

Local folks do not share our stupid and foolishness that we have about
Ashantis. They care more about how to put a food on their table.

To those of us who are harboring "never ending fear" about Ashantis, how many of us have been attacked, mugged etc by any Ashanti? We attended school with them, have them as friends etc so, what is the "phobia" about them? The fear, some of us have about them is our own imagination. Every tribe have some "phobia" about them and that phobia cannot be laid at the doorsteps of only Ashantis.

In any nation, the tribe that is the majority, is always perceived as " too front" which an undeniable fact. No matter what we see, make or do about the Ashantis, they will always be a force to reckon with. Those who see them as a threat should advice their folks living among the Ashantis, to leave with immediate effect because they see an "Armageddon type of destruction" descending on them. If they cannot do that then I will advice them to let a "sleeping dog lie peacefully" because it is thinking of how it can get a good bone to chew the next day.

I think Greater Accra carries the burden of harboring all Ghanaians. Its at a point where indegenous Ga's are beginnign to look like minorities in their own home. Ashanti Regions might be behind but I think G/A takes that title.

I do not think any tribe thinks Asantes are so evil to the point of causing then injury or harm, what I think is the problem with most minorities and Asantes is the Asante way of straight talking which most Ghanaian tribes consider been rude or arrogant. And also some Asantes do make open remarks and derogatory comments about ppl of other ethnic groups which most Ghanaians would never do in your presence. Ppl of other ethinc groups are also equally guilty of some of these remarks but they will seldom make this in your presence.

Then the size and population of Asantes also makes them victims where minorities think any Akan name is an Asante whereby labeling all negative attributes among some Akans to Asantes.

The sad part is even though most non Akans strongly believe some Asantes are rude, there are also other Akans who equally harbors this feeling towards Asantes esp Fantes and Bonos. You only have to be around them and gain their trust to realize this.

The sad part is politics is only making the situation worse. We all have to act now or else.....

Those who have been on Ghana web for a while are aware that this Laryeah is no Ga. He is only using a Ga name here. Gas are not overtly and outrighly so tribalistic.

Try and debate issues by looking at the bigger picture. Since independence, there have been a lot of verbal exchanges between Ghanaians and Nigerians, between Fantes and Northerners, between Asantes and Gas, and perhaps between Ewes and Asantes. However, these are all either pure politics (mostly chieftaincy) or just mere jealousies about soccer expertise. Nobody hates any single tribe in Ghana. Asantes have been cooking this up for years, either (1) to see how they can isolate one tribe for all the others to dislike thus deceiving all the rest to polarize around the NPP as the common pivot, or (2) to be seen as an innocent victim of unprovoked hate and therefore to solicit sympathy. This is all. There are too many Asantes married to Ewes and Gas, and there too many children who can claim their heritage in both tribes (I'm not talking about Rawlings and Konadu - there are millions in the diasporas and even in Ghana itself). So tell my dad's people to stop that lie mongering.

This is False , Shot also were Rear admiral Amedume and the Border Guards Commander Gen Utuka both from the VOLTA region . Roger Felli was killed and he came from the North. But also those who perished were people like Brig Wellington and Robert Kotei. Is Okatakyie not falsifying history to create tribal division? It is these kind of tribalists who need to be feared"?

Rather you resorted to NPP bashing. Let me tell you that NPP is not Ashanti and Ashanti is not NPP, in the same vein that NDC is not Voltarian and Voltarian in not NDC .
My advice to you is, if you want to be a credible independent writer then prepared to see things in a more objective way .
You article failed the test miserably . It's objective was politically biased and at best deviated from the caption.

Let's learn to be grateful to the Ashantes from whose hard work on the cocoa farms gave some of us the much needed free education to be where we are.
