Did you read the ENTIRE article? He also cited short comings at THE PREMIER UNIVERSITY OF GHANA at LEGON... Akadu, have a bit of imagination, will ya? If the PREMIER institution does not have water to flush toilet and what not and students in 2013 are relieving themselves in the bush, CAN YOU IMAGINE the state of other 2nd and Tertiary schools in Ghana?
Akadu, do you relieve yourself in the bush where you currently reside? If so, whose problem would it be, you think?
Akadu, try to reason like a PHD holder, so that you can teach those of us who have none, will ya?..lol..
Akadu, get your mind out of the TRIBAL GUTTER and think Ghana as a whole, and not region, or tribe, or political affiliation for ONCE on this issue of deplorable infrastructure which is a Ghanaian plague, not regional or tribal okay?......
Do you think this is NDC created exclusively? Was Ghana HEAVEN under Kufuor? If so, then perhaps Ho Poly a public Ghanaian institution, not just for V/R's alone, had gas cookers during Kufuor's time and when he was leaving at the end of his tenure, he confiscated them?
So Accra House of Chiefs need to come and fix the water problem at Legon? Is that what Akadu is saying now?
Please, do not take your personal frustration on Volta Region..They have done nothing to you!

Kwaku, I think you understood the point this individual put across. Remember that he has his native language which he speaks and may write perfectly. The problem most African Countries are facing is using the colonial masters language to study in our schools.
All over the world with exception of Great Britain, USA and Canada which of course the English Language is their native language, almost all the developed and developing countries use their native languages in studies hence they are advancing faster. Ghana have had independence for 56- years and produce many PHD - holders in every field of study. Can you name one manufactured or invented thing which we can boast of? Even what was left by the Colonial Masters we are not able to maintain them. Just think about a country without a National Airline - who are we? The writer made a meaningful point so please do not judge the mistakes he made in the english language. Most people in higher positions in Businesses around America writes horribly but speaks fluently because it is their native language. Have a good day buddy.

How many years of schooling must it take a non-native speaker of a language to master it sufficiently, esp, as in the case of Ghana, that language is the official language and medium of instruction in schools? This ready made excuse of it-is-not-our-mother-tongue cannot fly! Yes, even native speakers have to learn to write their languages. I very much doubt if Ebenezer can write his vernacular. I bet most Ghanaian who are fluent in English can't write their mother tongues properly, even less than they write English! I belong to that class, btw, as I didn't study my vernacular at even the sec. schl level. Nothing to be proud of but that's the way it is!

you have actually hit the hammer on the nail correctly. These institutions need pragmatic manpower training policy, result oriented leadership, adequate funding for project works that would enhance and encourage student enterprenueral skills development and result cum reward schemes relative to primary idea generation, implementation and development of those ideas into problem solving tools to help shape MOTHER GHANA. You and I are part of the problem inversely You and I can equally become part of the solution, thanks.

The manager says, "Of course, we have three, a wooden toilet, a metal toilet, and a singing toilet."
The man replies, "I'll take the wooden toilet."
Later, another man walks in and says to the manager, "Sir, I'd like to buy a toilet."
The manager replies, we have two left: a metal toilet and a singing toilet."
The man says, "I'll take the metal toilet."
Later, another man walks in and says, "Sir, I'd like to buy a toilet."
The manager says, "Sorry but we have one left and it is a singing toilet."
The man says, "I'll take it."
Later, all three of the previous men who bought toilets are back.
The first one says, "Sir, I do not like this toilet because everytime I sit, I get splinters in my butt."
The second says, "Sir, I dont like this toilet because it makes my balls too cold."
And the third guy says, "Yeah? Well I don't like my toilet because every time I sit down it sings, Do You See What I See?

The writer may be right on his assertion that some institutions have failed. But doesn't he think most institutions in Ghana have failed? The example that the HTM Dept uses charcoal instead of LPG is a rather hollow point to me. How many times don't Ghanaians run out of LPG? If they find charcoal more reliable, why can't they use that unless the dept refuses to use LPG they themselves produce? The fact that 3 workers have had to be operated on says nothing about the heat. What heat-related diseases prompted the surgery? How many from other departments have been operated on as well? I note your attack on the head of the HTM dept has some personal undertones. If Ho Poly is a failed institution, it is only a reflection of the failure of Ghana as a nation. Ghana is a failed nation!

I believe you are one of those people who do not see anything good in our Institutions. Deducing from your write-up, institutional failure is as a result of unavailability of Gas to cook.
If that is what you sort to portray, then I believe almost all our second cycle institutions are failures including the one you went, if you ever went to one. why? Because most of them still uses firewood to cook.
Using what is used in cooking at a particular place or in a particular institution to determine the success or otherwise of the Institution I believe is a display of ignorance, shallow mindedness and self disgrace.

I think you are a failed individual. you cannot write good english but still think university of ghana is a failed institution just because you think water supply in commonwealth is inadeuate. I was in commonwealth hall so let be educate you. The number of students in the hall exceed the official assigned number of students in the hall. there are about 200 percent more students in the hall, all illegally resident. water supply would surely be inadequate. But since vthe university came up with the policy of decongesting the hall, i believe water supply has been relatively better. Do you even know the sort of contribution the university of ghana has made to the development of ghana. I believe you are some of the failures the country has failed to repair. You cannot make logical argumentation. you think that just because the university cannot supply water it should be called a failed institution. In the first place vandals prefer the bush not because of inadequate water, they go there to ease themselves because they say they want fresh air, some to smoke.let me educate you a little, legon was built for 5000 students, almost all the halls were built for 300 students only, but due to expansion in second cycle education, change to the sss system and the failure of the government to expand facilities to correlate with student numbers, such problems are bound to come up. Do you know the number of times the university have had to rely on their own ingenuity to solve problems?. do you know that the jubilee hall and all the new halls are initiatives of the university. There are several projects on campus that the authorities through various means got for the university but people like you would never know and appreciate this. thank God you never went to Legon.
