The media is what we should be scared of and not the good people of Ghana. I personally don't trust RadioGold, radioxyz or whatever, and Adomfm where Ken Agyapong goes to make his stupid comments. Kwesi Pratt also should be warned and many others.

You may be so mundane to believe that Akuffo Addo will do anything to control his people in case the verdict goes against them. The man is an epitome of violence whose public utterances indicate that he cares less about the peace of Ghana if only violence can help him realize his childhood dreams. After all, who is the author of "all die be die"? Who is the author of "Yen Akanfuo" and "Atiwa koraa yekyeree won biribi kakra"? Didn't he and his leadership incite their supporters to beat up people, smash cars, assaulted journalists and kill people at Obra Spot after they had been declared losers in the 2012 lections? Have you ever heard him denouncing any of the violent statements by his people, ie from Kennedy Agyapong, Karbo, Mack Manu or Kofi Juma? Please, just be on alert because desperate people are capable of doing any desperate act to get their dreams realized.

If we are talking about "using" people for political gain, Akufo is not the only one here. From Nkrumah right down to Mahama, all have done it.
You saw nothing wrong with Mills' tribal remarks when he said, "adze wo fie eye, enti mom to mam" You supported him when it was reveal that his biggest fear was the "great Asante project." And again, you saw nothing wrong with Mahama's utterance " I am one of your own, so vote for me." Why do you find it necessary penalize Akufo?
You mentioned Karbo, Ken Agyapong, etc and still forgot to mention Nii Lante who made it a duty to deny those with Asante or Akan name to register in his constituencies. You forgot about Kobby Acheampong and his insults, Koku, Fiifi, Ablakwa, etc. Do you see the problem we have?
When Kwabena Adyei, the NDC chairman said that he was ready to kill the cats- meaning the SC judges, NDC cheered. Chief Justice have been degraded and insulted by the NDC leading up to this case and now the NDC is pretending they are the ones who are for peace? Are you kidding me.
Like I said, it is only tribalists among us who believed that Asantes were going to pick up their machete to kill Gas and Voltarains just because Ken Agyapong who is not Asante have asked them to do so.
Use the same analogy, since you guys believe that Akufo does not even have a support base at Akyem Abuakwa, why do you think other people will follow him and die for him? He can dream, and that is his birthright. But he can't force anyone to die for him.
We need to be realistic. And stop using this tribal card to divide us. Neither NDC nor NPP are architects of peace. It is the people that I trust and I know no one will rise up to do anything stupid for anyone of them.

Good morning Nyansasem, I did not intend to comment on Danny's article but to e-mail him to express my disappointment for such a short piece. However on reading your second comment in response to Boat's I decided to share my views on what is considered racist or tribalism.
I do not consider myself as an expert on the subject but have good knowledge on it having studied Race Relations as a subject and worked as Director of a Race Equality NGO in England for over 8 years. I am confident that, under UK's race laws, the first statement by the late Mills asking his home region to vote for him is not racist or tribalism. However, his second statement about "the great Asante project is racist. Again, Mahama asking people of the three northern regions to vote from him is not racist or tribalism. On the other hand, if both had said that, do not vote for my opponent because s/she is not one of us, that would have been racist or tribalism. Some my conclude that, their statements meant the the above. No, that is not what they said and that conclusion could not be made.
The negative implications of a statement and its potential detrimental effects is key to whether a statement like these are racist or not.
In fact, even in the developed democracies, political candidates expect their home, district region or state to vote for them because they are one of them. Some do say that when campaigning on home grounds. Failing to win one's home ground is not a good sign and could lead to defeat. Remember Al Gore, he lost his home state. If he had won his home state, there would have been no Supreme Court to hand the Presidency to Bush.
Again, the actions of Nii Lante was race discrimination and he should have been prosecuted for preventing some Ghanaian citizens from registering just because they bore non Ga names.
I wrote four articles on Kennedy Agypong's incitement to racial hatred and need no further explanation (see Feature Articles on April 18, 24 and 27, 2012 and May 1, 2012, all on Ghanaweb). Again, Akufo Addo's statement was racist because it had negative connotations with potential detrimental effect/s.
These are only some aspects of racism or racial discrimination as I understand it. What is wrong is wrong whether it comes from NDC or NPP.

Actually, I wanted this piece to be an exhortation only, not a full-length article. One thing about an exhortation is that people will read it in its entirety, because it's so short, whereas they may skip parts or all of a full-length piece. The hope is to remind ourselves of how important it is to preserve what we have -- our lives, our reputation, our integrity, our international standing, and our infrastructure. I do, however, understand your frustration with the length of the piece.

Kofi, I do agree with your submission and I think that was why I chose my words carefully by stating that, when it comes to "USING" the people by our politician none of them is innocent. Akufo might be found guilty of using blurting it out directly, but who appointed someone like Nii? Should that person not be equally blamed for inciting or causing tribal war?
Yes, Mills or Mahama asking their people to vote for them because they are one of them can't be considered as tribalism per se, however, that is what breeds division among the people. And as heterogeneous society like ours, the outcome is tribalism.
I know Akufo was wrong with all those comments, but it seems that most of our politicians don't know how to speak in public. This is a guy who thought it was good to joke about how good he is in bed with women on his campaign trail, even when they are accusing him of being a womanizer.
In all the comments that Kofi listed, I believe the one that was dangerous is the "Atiwa koraa yekyeree won biribi kakra"? This has the potential of inc but not the "All die be die." The "yen Akanfo," can be equated to "We Northerners" and "Adze wo fie" so I will not considered that as tribal remarks or anything.
This is the reason why I said, all of them are guilty. Even when our leaders are not using the abusive words or creating division among the people directly, they are behind their people who are causing all these troubles. Just look at how Mills appointed Koku, Lante and the rest and how Akufo did not say anything about Ken's outrageous remarks or Sir John's stupidity.
Just think of the advice Justice Dotsei gave to Sir John. We have insurmountable problems facing us but the politicians have changed our political discourse into tribal discourse.

Danny, I think it will depend on the leaders what they will do or say immediately after the verdict.
I believe Akufo if the case is thrown out, Akufo has on one chance to save his face and that is to immediately call Mahama to congratulate him and ask his supporters to stay calm. This, he has no choice but to act if he wants to be remembered as great politician. I doubt he wants others to see him as thug after all these years fighting for injustice.
I can trust Mahama to be civilized enough to let go, if Akufo won this case. However, I don't know if his people will obey him to be calm. That has been my fear. However, I strongly believe that people will just be "talking" and not do anything, except the media incite one group against another.

I think this an interesting observation because it links to other things. ALL the Ghanaians in the US writing for the ghanaweb adopt US spelling, measures, expressions, etc. EXCEPT Bokor Michael and a few non-regular writers. One can understand that since they live in the US and have become used to their system, they find it difficult to switch on and off when they write for ghanaweb. But, sometimes, one cannot help but feel that SOME OF THEM intentionally do it for a purpose - to flaunt something. Because US citizens feel everything US is the best in the world, these Ghanaians, who have all become US passport holders, feel it is fine to be fully bitten by that superiority bug. Of this, more later.
Anyway, the internationally agreed method of writing dates (ISO standard) is to start from the general to the particular: year first, month second, day last. Today will be written 13-08-14. Only a few countries on the continent and the Scandinavia adopt this convention consistently. Even the UK doesn't, preferring to start from the particular to the general. As for Ghana, we follow what either the UK or the USA is doing. Or we have no standards at all...
The USA still uses British imperial measures and weights but are forced to use ISO (mostly metric) standards when they write for international academic journals or manufacture for export to much of the world.
But the US way of writing a date by starting with the month is most peculiar and follows little logic. Even Ghana will not follow them in this!

The current ISO standard of writing dates is ISO 8601, third edition published in 2004. The idea, as usual, is to go from the general to the particular even up to the second in the hour/minute.
The ISO 8601 has several advantages like its being easy to read and write by software, language independent, notation short with constant length, cannot be confused with other dating systems, and some more.
The British and US systems of writing dates is extremely confusing. For example, when Daniel writes 8/29/2013, he is only lucky that 29 can easily be identified as the day of the month (since there are only 12 months) and 8 as the month (since there are only 7 days). But were the Supreme Court to give its verdict on the first day of September of this year, Daniel would be forced to write 9/1/2013. This will be confusing since we may not know if the middle 1 refers to a day or a month.
The ISO system avoids this.
At any rate, Daniel should not have used a date expressed in figures in the title of an article. He should have written something like: "Awaiting the Supreme Court’s Verdict" or, if he insists on writing a date,: "Awaiting the August 29 Supreme Court Verdict".
