  You are entitled to your opinion but not to your own facts. Nkrumah might have too quickly raced on with our development only to have the rug pulled from under him by the West at the eleventh hour when he needed their agreed assistance. But he did not pocket any funds for himself as you allege. If he did, the West would have left no stone unturned to expose him. If he had any personal accounts hidden in safe havens anywhere, the West would have dug into it to make it retrievable to assist the NLC or Busia's Administration that were seeking financial aid from it.
  
  Nkrumah did not selfishly demolish his entire hometown to rebuild into a modern mini-City, nor did he build himself or family some Hotel Waawaah, and spend thousands of dollars to buy medallions to decorate himself in self-adulation like some of our past Heads of State did.
  
  All the superfluous accolades on Nkrumah did even come from his supporters. He did not personally seek for those.
  
  The guy surely knew good stuff and that is why he chose to have Ghana reach for the modernity the developed Nations had at the time as quickly as he did.
  
  You may hate him for his erroneous harsh dealings with the Opposition but do not swallow the lies dumped on him to look worse than he really was.
  
  The money left for Ghana by the British Colonial overlords was not squandered but wisely invested by Nkrumah in infrastructure and Education. It was up to the subsequent leaders and regimes to build upon them. They chose to play partisan politics with them and scapegoated Nkrumah for their own unbridled corruption.
  
  I would defend Busia no less in similar circumstances. We must be bold to tell the truth and give even the devil his due.

  I wonder why some ignorant fools continue to claim that the British left Nkrumah that kind of money. In fact, the amt involved was just about £280mn, not £380mn. It wasn't enough to build even the Tema Harbour, township and the Akosombo Dam to boot, not to mention all those devt projs and state owned factories which various govts from the NLC have been selling up to date at great profit! Some squandered funds indeed! Yes, some like the gold refinery which was over 95% completed at great cost were abandoned to rust! Talk of causing financial loss to the state! From data I collected for my thesis, I read of a Minister "discovered" nearly 600 abandoned tractors in the bush on a tour of the N/R in 1967! Btw, there was no mention of any having snow ploughs on them!
  
  Now, when the West Africa Produce Board was dissolved by 1953 to give way to the CMB, Ghana got the lion's share of the reserves, a mere £19mn! Nigeria got only £9mn, showing how rich Ghana was compared to Nigeria then. Even that money the British wanted it to be given to them towards their war reconstruction! Bloody attempt to dupe us some more. How come all of you small boys don't know about these things?
  
  The rest of the money was accumulated by the CPP when they subscribed to Sir Arthur Lewis' infamous "anchor of safety" advice. This led to the rebellion of the cocoa farmers who had voted heavily for the CPP and the subsequent formation of the NLM. Nkrumah and the CPP paid a heavy price for that not very good decision which led to the accumulation of the reserves Ghana had on the eve of indep., considering the fact that the interest on the money was far lower than the loans Sir Arthur Lewis advised Nkrumah take to finance his projects. The farmers should have been placated with some appreciable increases, considering the fact that commodity prices were record high, thanks to the Korean War.

  It is wrong to hate Ashantis and it is equally wrong to hate others, too. The insults you hurl at Northerners do not correct the egregious hatred you point out the author might have shown for Ashantis. You could do better.

  Use your better sense of humanity to criticize any such hatred but not retaliate with dehumanizing insults. Show the way to civility and don't follow the uncivil path.
