I am almost fooled by your diatribe. However, I see the men in the Bible, except the prophets, as wimps who are controlled by the libido. Now, that is a reason to want to control another person. On the other hand, the men are more apt to seek God as a diversion. I will continue to believe that the world God has created is perfect, therefore we should tow the line of Jesus in order to reconnect with God. With that we are promised peace no matter what the storms raging in our families. We will eventually calm all storms and teach people like boko haram the right way to do things. Thanks for the article.

I only take a few exceptions to some specificities in your write up. Perhaps you should have gone a bit higher from treating the Biblical stories literally to handling them in their greater meaning. I bet you, you would have come to the same conclusions which is why it is a pity you didn't do so especially since you also mentioned "the Christ". As it is, the analysis remains at the level of those American evangelists who take the Bible rather literally and as the inerrant word of God. As for the Muslims, the less said about them, the better.
Did "the Christ" say seven women will, in the last days, be holding one man's apparel, etc etc. I've forgotten my Bible. Pls, can you just remind me where it says that? I am feeling too lazy now to google that fact. I wonder if that is where the Muslims got that thing of the vestal virgins waiting for suicide bombers - virgins who never lose their virginity no matter how much sex they have... lol, lol, lol.
But, on a more serious note, SAS, aren't you blaming women for finding themselves in a situation that is actually imposed on them by a man-dominating world? Yes, the women should stand up and fight for their rights. But a lot will depend on us men too, if they should ever win this fight to truly emancipate themselves. Perhaps the men who do the worst damage are those who think they are "modern" and not as crass as Duncan-what?
"Many" men don't beat up their mothers, SAS. Some men, in fact a few, do but saying "many" is being a bit careless in your choice of words, don't you think so?

You raise some valid concerns about marriage but in the same breath some of your statements are a gross misrepresentation of what marriage is all about. Some of our traditional beliefs are at variance with the true christian concept of marriage.
Duncan Williams in my opinion was not addressing the subject of marriage as an egalitarian preacher but was doing so as a male chauvinist.
Life is not a competition between male and female that one must dominate the other. From the beginning of time, many societies have relied on the moral force of women. The moral foundation provided by women has proven to be uniquely beneficial to the common good. Women therefore deserve our respect and we must express gratitude and appreciation for the influence of good women. Dr James Emman Kwegyir Aggrey, 1875-1927,expressed it succinctly to underscore the importance of women to society when he said,"If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a family. " Men must be the kind of husbands women can trust, that children can trust, and that God can trust.
Unfortunately, influenced by traditions and beliefs, man is a chauvinist, basically an egoistic hedonist who with brute force wields unrighteous power to subdue, conquer and rule his spouse instead of using the power of his love to engender her submission.
This is what the Christian Bible says about marriage between a man and a woman. Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Verse 25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave himself for it. 26. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. 27. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 31. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother , and shall be joined unto his wife, and the two shall be one flesh. Verse 33. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband." Fewer women, not the preponderant growing majority would stay away from such a husband and refuse to submit herself unto him. The truth is that marriage has been rendered so unattractive that both sexes, especially women, are shying away from it. The promises of the Lord are extended to all those who follow the pattern of life that build happy holy marriage relationships. Marriage is a gift from God to us; the quality of our marriages is a gift from us to God.

When a woman is deceived to believe that she was taken from the rib of man, as the superstitious, ignorance-packed bible says, and its taught for subjugation purposes, all nonsense can follow.
As Africans, there is the urgent need for us in this generation, to make it our utmost responsibility to boldly come out and speak against and condemn superstitions, ignorantly practicised norms and perceptions of traditions as we will against immorality in society.
We must declare war on superstition which is spread by religion, fossilized by tradition and maintained by Christianity especially in Africa.

I had completed in my mind a draft of an extended rejoinder based on my critique of that article. Just as you have traced the subordination and abuse of women to religion, so can the pervasive corruption and abuse of public office in Ghana/Africa be traced to religion. Add ignorance which religion actively and doggedly promotes as the basis of its existence. In the field of epistemology, religious knowledge, i.e., ecclesiastical knowledge, is vehemently opposed and in contradiction to scientific and legal-rational sources of knowledge, as you must know from your methodology lectures when getting your Masters and then your PhD. In fact, some of us knew that even before we entered secondary school. A good structuring and grounding in the Sixth Form Logic in the General Papers should have exposed all who had 6th Form education. What's happening now?
Unfortunately, Ghana has been taken over by religious charlatans and political crooks in consort with each other. Some of us have resolved to face up to them. It is all about whose knowledge is the "truth" which must be propagated.

If you can help by quoting anything I have said anywhere to support your claim, I will be happy to help your understanding.
Probably, you got me mixed up with the Christian jihadist called Dungeon Master whose irrationality surpasses theTalibans although he studied science. The thrust of my argument in the article you cite is that our worship of God should be quantified in terms of our righteous lives, and I quoted the bible as I would any book to support my point......
And as to my reference to God, I take him/her as a bundle of good principles or solid morality, not as anything described or taught by the charlatans.
