Mr Danso, our graduates cannot design, produce, or make anything as long as the education system remains so. No critical thinking, problem solving skills, just chew and pour.

You can present your views without tagging yourself as a Ghanaian-American. I hope the president will have a quick word with the mosquitoes not to bite Ghanaian-Americans.

These are the kinds of things we should come together and demonstrate on. It is less political. It creating awareness. I guess you are right about the civil engineers.

You are wasting your time, the civil engineers in Ghana still have not worked out how to build a 2 story house without it collapsing. A cover drain comes 100's of years after the 2 story house.

LET SUCH A GHANA LEADER LIVE IN A CIVILZED COUNTRY FOR 100 YEARS, S/HE WILL STILL REMAIN A BUSH PERSON.
THAT'S THE KIND OF LEADERS WE HAVE IN GHANA.

Why send this letter to the president of a country? Do you send letters to Obama when you find out that there are pot holes in your area in the USA? Why not write to the Accra Mayor, of the department of works in charge of East Legon. Your concerns are right but you are out of place to write such a letter to the president. I guess you do not have anything to do

If you are in Ghana, Mr. Danso, then seek to meet with the Health and Public Works Authorities on this issue. It is only with a direct, incessant push that the old rotten System could be changed.
Ever since the fatal floods in Accra and other parts of Ghana, some 4 or 5 years ago, I and many other Ghanaians have been advocating for the complete cessation of constructing open gutters or drains in Ghana. We have been also advocating for making Community Waste Water Treatment Centers a mandatory infrastructure in all our towns and Cities.
The open drains coupled with the mountains of unprocessed garbage everywhere within and on the outskirts of the Towns and Cities are a humongous Health and physical hazard to the masses. Those contribute immensely to the flooding of the Cities, and the reason why certain diseases like Malaria, Cholera and others still recur quite so often.
We cannot see Accra or Ghana, in general, attract tourism to any significant level near its optimum under such unsanitary conditions. I have encountered stories of how some prominent, lucrative investments have eluded us because the Business entities involved cited our low sanitary status as a repellent to locate in other countries instead.
Gone are the days when the Korle Lagoon and similar waterlogged surroundings were sprayed regularly to reduce the incubation of Mosquitoes. The time has long come for us to stop hanging our butts over the edges of open drains to relieve our bowels. The seeding of the Beaches with stinky, hefty turds and unashamedly exposing our private parts to passersby and others in league with us may have reduced significantly. But that has not solved our insanitary conditions along the Beaches altogether. We deserve and can do better to claim ourselves among the civilized, modern Societies of today. Let us be more practical to contribute to that end, beyond the verbal complaints.
It seems that our Officials would rather maintain the insanitary conditions to compel us to import the various protective and disease-fighting chemicals and Medicines which they dubiously control to enrich themselves and their cronies, than to have the root-causes of such diseases permanently eradicated, as in the proper development of such areas to be environmentally safe and even attractive.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite all those interested in forming a private Waste Management Firm that would vigorously seek investments to undertake the construction of such Facilities as earlier on mentioned and more, to make the country attain a real modern and highest standard of Sanitation.
I encourage the general Public to take keen interest in this proposition and invite Civil Engineers, Health Workers, (both in Medical and Public Health Fields), Town Planners, and other essential Technical experts to join this campaign and the suggested company as partners, to begin with. No monetary contributions are solicited to join. A certain viable core of partners would be needed first before we all brainstorm together for how to fund the Company. I would suggest a Model of the Mondragon Cooperative for a start. Other forms of the said Company may also be suggested by all. But the final Business entity would surely have to be, I suggest, an economically viable and profitable Utility Company with the ultimate Social good in mind.
I also invite experts in Finance, Real Estate Development and Environmental Scientists as part of the Technical core of such a Company. I will start making the necessary contacts to other Ghanaian experts I know would be interested.
We must pull together to save the Nation while even creating jobs and wealth privately, and making our Communities worth living.
If anybody is interested to join this initiative, please send me an email to the following address:

We must not leave everything on the shoulders of the Government, and we can do more than just Zoomlion!!

Why not an underground sewage system? Like the Tema motorway which was constructed over fifty years ago which has stood the test of time, the underground sewage system will be costly. But if we bite the bullet, organize and prioritize the budget well we can find the money to start the underground project which in the long ran will save lives. The technology to build the underground sewage system is available and we do have proper engineers who can build it. What does the army do for the nation? Why can't we use the army to build our bridges, roads and markets since we are not at war or are not seriously engaged in any activities anywhere. They just hang out in their mess and dress smartly for parades. Let us put them to work for the nation. The taxpayers monies are used to support the army. Let them earn their keep. How does the saying go...idle hands are tools for the devil. History has it that the American Army Corp of Engineers built the highway system of roads, highways and parkways in the United States. We can do the same.
Upon completion of roads the sand is left on the shoulders and nobody cares about that. This is what annoys me most.
