The EC is being criticised for charging for press accreditation, but I think the EC might have some good reasons for this. I think part of the reason for press accreditation for the 2016 General Election is to stop misinformation, disinformation and journalists tripping over themselves at collation/controlled centres.

There's no doubt in a democracy, press freedom is very crucial. But most Ghanaian journalists and media houses do not behave or report ethically and professionally. Given the coverage of our Ghanaian politics/election campaigns, I think the EC is trying to ensure that the accredited Ghanaian press/journalists adhere to certain conditions and be responsible as possible. Perhaps, the accredited journalists might be allowed into certain controlled areas in order to create the right manageable conditions for its operations.

I don't think the EC is charging for press accreditation for its financial sustainability.
