  There are differences between targeted tax waivers and blanket tax breaks. There are also sustainable tax breaks and destructive tax breaks given away because of moronic campaign promises. In Ghana we have experienced each and those who choose to fall for NDC and or NPP promises do so because they know no better. Ghana is a consumer nation and has been for over 40 years. Anyone who knows something about consumer nations know consumer nations tend to be poor, saddled with debt, no opportunities for development and women are exploited, under educated and most people live as indentured servants. What is the NPP or NDC willing to do to spur manufacturing, research and more goods/ products for exports instead of imports? A promise of blanket tax reduction is a sham and a bribe to the rich and the NPP is willing to engage in because they know Ghana's voters are saps. What are those 1 district 1 factory going to produce and how are they going to be worthy of either their tax free status, start-up capital or sustainable infusion of capital? Does Dr. Bawumia not know that factories are bound to fail if there are no reasonable return on investments/ROI? Can the NPP or NDC tell Ghana which farmers and or farms have lived up to all the tax giveaway or investment of government? Can the NPP give an account on the ROI when during the Kufour era the government gave 5 year tax breaks for those pretending to be in the hospitality industry? The NPP and NDC have engaged in political bribery through promises using Ghana's revenue but Martin Amidu will not go to court to request for a cease and desist when they engage in this bribery scheme. The NPP and NDC cannot promise using government money as if it's their own. Furthermore, are expenditures not supposed to be approved by parliament? If so how could they engage in promises without predictable outcomes from parlianent? Politicians continue to make fools out of undereducated, uneducated and even classroom educated but ignorant voters. It's about time pepole stood up to be counted instead of falling in line with the offer of tribal preferences by these political parties.

  I am happy the writer who is a deputy minister of finance did not say what the Npp is proposing CANNOT be done. He thinks it can be done with some difficulties. Let me assure him that, that is why we have visionary leaders and Nana Addo is one of them. Minimize corruption to the barest minimum, eliminate waste, stop creating, looting and sharing of tax payers money. This combined with tax cuts and better investment policies will be enough to spur economic growth. Npp can do it, let's vote for the Npp and see real economic transformation.

  In your analyses did you consider effect of leakages in the economy such as corruption, multinationals taking over business from locals (in mining and others sectors) and still enjoying tax holidays in spite of repatriation profit offshore, crowding out effect due to excessive borrowing, few tax payers (business) dying because of overtaxing (instead of decreasing tax and offering incentives and good tax system to get small business and everyone to pay tax to increase government revenue, Public private partnership where the government provide the plan, structures, infrastructure (both physical and human) so private invest capital (read on East Asia Miracle, NICs) and so on.... Remember the problem is not about increasing or reducing taxes but policies and procedures on how it is done. Read more on tax system adopted in countries (developed and developing) considering political and institutional structures....
