Some Africans think everyone is a fool.
There's nothing called African or European culture, especially when the so called culture is an impediment to progress.
I choose to brain wash myself for myself good.

Marian I like your argument but it starts from your house. Change your name to Afua Kobi Ansah. I hope you named all your children Ghanaian names not African or foreign names. It is really our names, food, dress which are really cultural. At this funeral it displayed what our ancestors did in their relative deprivation. There was no electricity o they carried sticks palm sticks on fire to light the way for the king. The carried powerful leaves in a pot before the king to drive bad sspirits away. Is the gun part of our an esters armament. Many of them were what our ancestors in their circumstances did. Sowing shirts were difficult without sowing machines so cloth was easier even the edges of kente couldn't be down and we call that culture. We are ridht to abandon many of them now and move on. They moved from cutlass to guns.

Dear Marian, I agree 100% with you. It is extremely important to preserve our culture and our customs. I had the opportunity to travel to Japan and I visited 3 cities: Toyko, Osaka and Kumamoto. I was pleasantly surprised to find a technological advanced country like Japan that still cling to the ancient culture and traditions. The Japanese revere their king (Emperor Akihito) and they have preserved all their ancient monuments and artifacts including the ancient Shinto monasteries and traditions. They proud show you around and tell you that they have been this and that for the past 300 years!
In Africa, we have been told that everything African is bad and that to develop, we must abandon our culture. This is completely false. As has been shown in Japan, China, India, Thailand etc, you can develop your economy and still maintain your ancient culture.
I am very proud of the fact that the Ashantis seem to be one of a few tribes who have decided to preserve and maintain their culture. They are to be congratulated for their immaculate adherence to their customs. Those of us who are traditionists were really proud of what the Ashantis did. It was an opportunity to showcase African culture and they did not disappoint us.
As this was beamed all around the world, it may lead to an increase in tourism in Ghana.
Kudos to the media houses e.g. Adom TV and GTV for the live streaming and to all Ghanaians for their support in presenting our culture to the world.
Hopefully, we will imitate the Japanese is preserving our culture.
Well done Asanteman.
Well done Ghana.
P.S. Marian, continue to write such articles so that we the traditionalists who always feel outnumbered by our Europeanised Africans can read them and be encouraged.

Marian, as an academic, I feel ashamed as well. These are the things our histories and anthropology departments must be documenting and analyzing.
Our universities are degree mills and do little research.2
