Adofo Rockson needs not ask that rhetorical question to support the idea of possible 2 Chiefs in Kumawu. Kumawu is better off with only one Chief as it has always been from the ancient times. Therefore, if someone is not eligible, he or she must not be imposed upon the People. Period. Honesty must prevail. And we should not look away for injustice to reign because it is being perpetrated by a particular higher Authority.

For, as long as I am concerned, the People's choice is the only one that matters. And no authority is higher than what is derived from the People who are supposed to make that choice.

If Adofo truly believes in the Akan Culture and upholds nothing but the honest evidence in each of the cases where we have dual chieftains in Akan, he would object to the sheer existence of such duality.

It is apparent that in almost all of these Akan Towns with such dual chieftains, it was the Asante Confederacy that imposed its will on the natives of the area, denying the real royals the exclusive right to rule their Citizens.

In Tuobodom and Sunyani-Dumase, as in the other places, the later arrivals, Asantes, of direct subservience to Asantehene, were considered to be of too much higher eminence than the natives to be allowed to serve the original Chiefs of the areas. The Asantes arrived in those areas as representatives of the Asantehene and did not have any royal eligibility to be Chiefs of the areas involved.

People were forced by the subsequent Political arrangement between the Manhyia and the British Colonial Masters to accept that imposition, and they grew to reluctantly accept it, and not ask questions for its reversal.

Hence, the recent agitations by the original natives of the Towns to retake their Traditional authority back and make the Towns single Chieftaincy areas. Such was why Techiman was in a bloody conflict with some of the Towns in its jurisdiction within the last decade.

The honest truth is that people do not want to be imposed upon who must be their leaders or chiefs. Not anymore in these modern times. And that is why the Adofos of Kumawu may enjoy the sympathies of many other Ghanaians in this dispute about the installation of Kumawuhene.

As much as I like the Otumfuor Osei Tutu II, I take exception to the denial of original natives of total and singular Traditional control of their Towns by Manhyia. The scenario is likened to how Colonies legally demanded their freedom from the Europeans all around the World. It is about Freedom and Independence.

If we would not let people decide their own fate as they are naturally eligible to, how do we justify our Nation's struggle for Independence from the British?

If we denounce Imperialism, it must not only be from the Europeans. We must denounce local Imperialism as well. Period!

Rememeber they were not in a war; rather they used the demise of Adofoahyee's mother Maame Seni Fontom funeral; borrowed ornaments from Apemso palace and purposefully refused to return them; used the occasion to stab The Apemso Royals in the back, i.e. killed and maimed them. That is how these immigrants from Essunja crowned themselves rulers of Apemso.

There are a few scenarios that such a situation could arise. One of them is when the Queen-mother's choice is totally unacceptable to the Citizens, for very cogent reasons. And even in that case, some involvement of hers would have been made, prior.

The second is that the Queen-mother could be under some on-going dispute that might, possibly, even derail her own Stool occupancy. But most often, disputes arising from such installations would involve the Queen-mother's choice not meeting the approval of other Royals or the larger population, or vice versa. It is only that she may not agree with the other 'king-makers' who is most eligible to ascend the Stool.

Citizens do not necessarily have to accept anyone the Queen-mother suggests as her preferential candidate for the Stool. What almost always happens, however, is that no one could deny the Queen-mother the right to present her choice for consideration.

What interest would Osafo Marfo has in a Kumawu chieftaincy matter? The Senior Minister is Akyem and to the best of my knowledge, has no blood relations in Kumawu. So why should a man matured in all aspects of governance. Knowing too well the ills of chieftaincy matters, would so much be persuaded to put his reputation and that of his party on the line. Adofo Rockson has been on the Kumawu chieftaincy issue over a long period. He has even taken the Asantehene on in the process. There are too many governance issues to fully engage the attention of people who have been entrusted to correct wrongs of the past. Please, do not distract them.
