Let's Protect the Interests of NPP as Party Supporters

It is an undeniable fact that, corruption has been the bane of development of most African countries and Ghana is no exception. It is in the light of the open thievery, corruption and incompetence of John Mahama and his appointees that the Ghanaian voter opted for Nana Akufo-Addo and his NPP at the last general elections.

For instance, on several political platforms, Candidate Akufo-Addo declared; "I am not corrupt, I have never been corrupt, and I will never be corrupt". But, his main competitor, then President Mahama, struggled to answer a simple question on corruption and bribery thrown at him by a journalist.

On the basis of the afore-mentioned, one would therefore not fault Ghanaians, especially those whose contributions brought the NPP into power as regards any shred of corrupt deals on the part of his appointees. This, they believe, would go a long way in protecting the image of the party as well as the nation's scarce resources.

But, do NPP supporters have to level unsubstantiated allegations against each other in order to achieve this simple task? Why would someone who claims to be an NPP member level serious allegations on any of the President Akufo-Addo's close associates?

President Akufo-Addo has worked with the likes of Lord Commey, Francis Asenso-Boakye, Abu Jinapor, just to mention but a few, for so many years. It wasn't therefore surprising to anyone when those people were named as his Administrative Staff. The question is, why would any of these close associates who risked their lives to ensure Nana Addo's victory, do anything to bring the presidency into disrepute, especially on issues of corruption?

This, to me, is premature and I would entreat all party folks to hasten slowly on issues that have the tendency to mar one's reputation. As Party members, our core task is to protect the image of the party and the president; and if we have any genuine complaints to make about any of those appointees, it should be done away from the public view using appropriate channels.

Remember, these guys are fallible mortal souls, and might have stepped on the toes of others in the course of their new roles at the presidency. But, we must have a forgiving heart and not to destroy them. If we agree to Nana Addo's incorruptibility, then we should not doubt his close associates when it comes to corruption and bribery. Let's put the past behind us and focus on how to make President Nana Akufo-Addo's administration, a success.
