We get it that mob action is wrong and it is always sad when a life is taken needlessly but what we need to stop this is to strengthen our systems, the police, the courts, etc.No amount of fundraising for the widow/family will change the outcome, perhaps the money raised from any fundraiser event should be directed at providing police vehicles, training, computers, equipment etc. to make the police more efficient. We don't always have to wait for China and other countries to donate items to the police and other security agencies, we as citizens can do the same. If we can make useless pastors millionaires, then we can also provide to our various agencies to protect us.

I also don't think Kumankuma's approach is the right one.

I don't see why there should be donations to the bereaved family. Why should the family become rich by the sad act of the lynching of a member? And from where did the president get the 50,000 cedis from? His own pockets? Can he go donating money to any family who suffers from the effects of mob justice in the country?

The solutions must be institutional. The police and the army must do their work. The police to make sure that they're there to save people from mob justice and prosecute offenders. The army to make sure that they themselves don't indulge in mob justice because one of their own has been wronged.

Shame unto the Ghana Armed Forces the chief perpetrator of mob justice. Shame unto you, your party, all the parties in Ghana, the Ghana Bar Association, the Independent Human Rights Commission of Ghana, the media for the silence despite the fact that all of you are aware of the flagrant human rights violations committed and continue to be committed by the rogues in the Ghana Armed Forces against the defenseless and helpless people of Denkyira Obuase. What I hate most is political opportunism. Why have you people not condemned the barbaric, uncivilized and the inhumane actions of the soldiers which are in violations of international and nationals?

I promise you and all Ghanaians that I will use all my resources to ensure that the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces, the rogue soldiers and the government of Ghana are held accountable at national and international courts for their actions and inactions. This is the beginning of the war against impunity in Ghana.
When civilians commit mob justice it is bad. When soldiers and security agencies commit mob justice it is worse. When good people and institutions mandated to protect and promote human rights keep silent in the face of human rights violations and abuses, it is worst.

The problem, Daniel Achireko, with you and others of African origins who have lived and do live in civilized industrialized nations is how naive, simple-minded you become that facilitates your hypocritical approach to issues. In Canada where you currently reside, there are effective efficient and well-funded institutions such as the Canada Royal Mounted Police who command authority and respect from citizens and above all are beyond the politics of tribal and political party controls. But tribal and political influence peddling is the order in Ghana and from the NPP in Ghana that pretends to have intelligent leadership when the truth is that they are ignorant from the womb and have not gotten any better despite their classroom education and world travels.
Your failure to appreciate what the Ghana Armed forces did in Denkyira Obuase in the wake of barbarians running wild in the town only belies your ignorance and hypocrisy. Ghana has never had a dignified police institution since the overthrow of Nkrumah and political parties have made damn sure it remains ineffective and inefficient to facilitate bribery and corruption that are the primary vehicles to becoming rich in Ghana as a politician. With any worthwhile reading or research you, Daniel, could have realized that the self governing barbarians in Denkyira Obuase acted in full view of citizens and officials of the local government who for all practical purposes control local police stations. Are you oblivious to the fact that even in Canada and other civilized industrialized nations, military institutions are called upon to engage in exercises of restoring civility when local police have been overtaken by events? In Denkyira Obuase, a vacuum was created by design and conspiracy between the local government officials and police system to allow their barbarism to rule the day which facilitated the Ghana Armed forces to go into a war zone; they did not enter a civil society or law abiding enclave. If you are a Christian, Daniel, you may know that even the Christian God did not save Sodom and Gomorrah because their sins were beyond redemption. You Daniel and others should be thankful that the Ghana Armed forces did not burn the whole town down like I would have commanded done to be in line with the fate that befell Sodom and Gomorrah but also as a warning to the lawlessness that has been ushered in to dangerous heights under this NPP administration of Nana Akufo-Addo. If you were not some pocket hypocrite like Martin Amidu, a self proclaim one man vigilante, you would have written about and Martin could have gone through the courts to put an end to the lawlessness of this administration. Tell me why the NPP official sanction of the Delta and Invincible forces as substitutes for national security does not meet your definition of deviant political leadership but you would rail against those from the Armed forces who went into Denkyira Obuase to clean the filth of a town?

Sometime in 1989 or thereabouts, I attended a musical night at the ACCRA sports stadium. I was a student and had gone to the concert with other colleagues whilst school was on break. In attendance were many musical groups including one from the military.

At about 4am when the program was about ending, I noticed a group of soldiers who had gone with the military band arrest a young man they had accused of picking somebody's pocket. Many patrons were tired with some sleeping on the turf and this young man was apparently caught pick-pocketing a sleeping patron. According to one of the soldiers, during the afternoon prior to the program, his wallet had been picked from his pocket when they had brought their musical instruments to be fixed at the stadium in readiness gif the program. And so for picking somebody's pocket, the young man had been accused of being responsible for the loss of the military officer's wallet the day before.

To this end they were taking him to the barracks and until the lost wallet was recovered, he was going to stay in the barracks. Many people were pleading for the young man to be set free but no, our green khaki friends won't budge. No amount of pleading could touch the heart of these soldiers. By this time they had started manhandling the young man. I felt that was gross injustice and out of the blue, I confronted the soldiers and pointed out to them that their action was wrong and an affront to justice. I demanded they left the young man alone and go find their lost wallet. At this stage the place was silent as every one stayed put in anticipation that this "idiot has brought himself". My intervention was so intense it got the soldiers infuriated to the point that they violently pushed both of us into their military truck (a Steyr) and sped off out of the stadium towards the castle. No body could raise a finger. In the truck, I kept my insistence that their action was unlawful and that the young man deserved to be set free. I told them in the face I was ready to accompany the guy to the barracks.

Few meters after the independence square the truck pulled up and to my surprise the leader of the group told the rest to just let us go because he felt I could be a problem to them later.

And so I was pushed out of the truck together with the young man. I hooted at them as they sped off and disappeared towards the Osu direction.

I advised the young man to be of good behavior. I saw him kneel on the road with arms raised as if to thank God for his mercies.

I can't explain where that audacity to confront the soldiers came from. When I came back to my "senses", I realized I could have been brutalized by these soldiers especially in the days of the revolution.

In the wake of the unfortunate barbaric incident from your kinsmen from Denkyira-Obuase, I'm compelled to tell my story not in support of those vampires but to lay bare the rot that has engulfed us as a people for decades and wish to say that Major Maxwell Mahama's death should serve as the turning point in our fight to recognize law and order as the only way for our society to progress and for our survival as humans.

We must endeavor not to use the powers we wield by virtue of our privileged positions in society to inflict pain on our less fortunate country men and women. Soldiers, the police, politicians, ordinary people like me, should rather use whatever we have to protect each other for our common survival.

May our fallen hero and all others who have lost their lives through our behavior as lawless animals, rest in perfect peace.

Denkyira Boase should not even have a live pig roaming on it's street let alone a two legged being. San San go up, today our Army is just like the girls brigade. Women can pour petrol on our soldiers and set them ablaze. I swear to my last dollar If nothing is done by the military high command within the next 2 months , walai we Will avenge our anger on our senior officers.
