I once listened to one Dr, Lyold Amoah on Joy News and wondered if he was merely repeating what people were saying or he was his arguments were scientifically informed; they were very shallow, and mimicry of the daily political discourse of the time. The said academic was supposed to be an international relations and Asian experts. It is up to the news editors to look out for quality analysts not necessarily the loud mouth ones who crave for for national fame.

I like this write up because it is a deep rooted situation in our education system in general. My theory to why we don't see much contribution from the academia profession is the inability to express one self in the English language. With all due respect this deficiency is more visible in the Arts and Liberal Sciences.
Being educated does not mean one has fluency in explaining themselves in English.

Most of these so called expects didn't really earn their doctorate degrees... this is what happens when the chunk of your intellectuals bought their way through school... most of them just have the title but are not really ed ... read full comment

Good observation...in fact the engagement with the academia on public issues should be institutionalized at the policy planning level of the Ministries and Cabinet secretary level..
