A 13-member Health Epidemic Preparedness Team (HEPT) has been formed to execute plans and activities to prevent any outbreak of the dreaded Ebola and cholera diseases in the Obuasi Municipality.

Mr. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who announced this at a media briefing at Obuasi on a number of developmental issues.

He expressed the hope that the team would be up to their responsibilities should the epidemic break out in the municipality.

The briefing discussed the street naming and property addressing system, level of preparedness of the municipality against Ebola and cholera and the assembly’s efforts at traffic and sanitation management.

He expressed optimistic that the health professionals would work with diligence to address issues of Ebola and cholera to prevent their occurrences in the Municipality.

Mr. Boadi warned that those who had been putting up buildings and other structures on waterways and other unapproved spaces should be prepared for court.

“Those who are building without permit would be handed over to the law courts,’’ he said, and urged the public to contribute towards building a disciplined society.

The MCE stressed that, “There is also a Traffic and Sanitation Task Force put together to instill discipline on our roads and to make our environment clean’’.

Mr. Boadi said a specific action plan had been drawn after a forum on sanitation and that the assembly would employ ‘education’ and ‘enforcement’ of laws to ensure the effective management of sanitation in the Municipality.

Mrs. Agnes Amoah, the Assistant Municipal Town Planning Officer, in her presentation on Street Naming and Property Addressing System, said it would promote orderly human settlement and improve the delivery of health, fire and security services to the citizenry in the municipality.

Mrs. Amoah announced that a total of 750 roads within 10 suburbs in the Municipality had been earmarked under the second phase of the project.

The first phase was completed in 2011-2012 and it affected the central business district of the municipality where 100 streets and 1200 houses were numbered.
