Tadpole-infested water not our fault- GWCL

The Eastern regional office of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has indicated that the firm is not to blame for the discovery of tadpoles in water from a household tap at Betom, a suburb of Koforidua.

Speaking to Class FM's McAnthony Dagyenga, the Regional Water Production Manager of the company, Martin K. Asante, said engineers went to the area immediately news of the contaminated pipe water broke to ascertain the situation.

According to him, the residents in the household did not do due diligence in ensuring that their pipelines were in hygienic condition.

He said they combed through all the area but it was only that house that experienced the problem of tadpoles coming through their tap.

He said the pipeline passed through “horrible and unhygienic” conditions, saying residents of the house, given where the water came from, should not have drunk the water from it.

“We investigated and interviewed residents but only that house had the problem. It is a local problem and we will give professional advice, but it has nothing to do with Ghana Water,” Mr Asante said.

Class News visited the area and observed that the pipelines connecting to the tap from its source lay in a dirty and unhygienic environment as one could see the pipes lying in a gutter.
