  If the researcher claims fertilizers too have high concentrations of nitrate why then did she attribute the high concentration of nitrate in groundwaters to manure application? It doesn't add up. Manure is safe and couldn't be the cause for the high concentration of nitrate in groundwaters. Fertilizer is the chief culprit here.
