The issue with Ghanaian leaders is that they don't really analyze policies objectively. It's all about rolling it out to create a sense that government is working rather than it being sustainable. Comprehensive health coverage stands on 3 legs; access, quality and cost. You cannot alter one without the other. The fixation is always a good access but no one talks about cost and quality. They don't also talk about the fact that access doesn't mean chps compounds and health center. If you spread those across a whole region without well equiped hospital, the patients will just end up in the teaching hospital. For cost, the NHIS pays once a while but health facilities have to be operational, pay casual workers, buy consumables etc. if you haven't paid them in 3 months and the patients pay nothing, what happens when the funds dry it? Concerning quality, when you double access, reduce cost, what happens to quality? This government is about to do the same thing the previous government did with free shs with free primary healthcare.
