Rural areas are where the services of the doctors are needed and if the government post them and they refused, the government has no business keeping their names on the payroll. They should go and find work in the private sector and remain in the cities. Government can't be paying them while they refuse postings to where their services are needed. They should go and establish their own hospitals/clinics and mann them. Stop defending some of these people who see themselves as demigod. Even much of JESUS' work was among the rural folks. We have doctors who sacrificed their comfort to work in the rural areas. Are they better than them?

It is not always the case of creating conducive env't where people abuse it. The Dr are not more special than the rural folks who need their services. They have swore the Hypocrical Oath of professionalism and servicento mankind. They were not train to come be demigod, wanting to be worshipped and treated above others. Many countless Dr have sacrificed and work in deprived areas with low salaries and limited or zero condition of service. If some of these greedy and self-seeking Drs feel they are above working in the rural/deprived areas, then they should go and establish their own clinics and stay in the cities.

Why don't you try to understand how the healthcare system works before you jump all over people's posts trying to defend the minister. You must know that doctors are not paid when they're not posted. They have to be posted like any other staff, accept the posting, start work, going through a process before they receive salaries. Why then is the minister saying they are going to take their name off the payroll when in fact, their names are not on the payroll?Secondly, doctors are important, whether you hate them or not. The problem is that most of you are unable to tell the difference between doctors and health SYSTEMS. Doctors work in a broken system and they also die from the system. The minister's job and the build a better system. Doctors don't build have systems and you have to understand that. But just no person who's truly educated will do the job you're doing (trying to defend the minister for a pittance), so will no serious country appoint a health minister who doesn't understand health systems.

These young ones coming into the system don't want to serve in deprive areas, but rather in the cities. Who should work at the deprived areas? In fact I will be happy if MOH/GHS will introduce a policy that ensures that new entrant employees be posted to the rural/deprived areas. I was serving in one of the deprived districts when a far junior came on monitoring simply because he was posted to the national headquarters, perhaps through the backdoor. How can a junior come and supervise a senior? The system has allowed this kind of nonsense to fester.

Any doctor who refuses to accept posting to rural area where his services are needed appointment should terminated. There are thousands of doctors at home awaiting postings. So, anyone who refuses posting should be quickly replaced. They should go into private practice. Let them establish their own clinics or hospitals and stay in the cities

In Ghana, we all know that teachers, nurses, National Service personnel, etc, etc, if posted to places they don't like, can pay money for them to be posted elsewhere. If you are going to punish doctors who refuse rural postings, then don't accept bribes to influence their postings.

Sometimes language is even a problem. Why would someone who was fee paying student agree to work in a deprived area? Sometimes no better accommodation and social life. Most of them are made to sleep in the theatre staff dressing rooms, ward units, share rooms of 2 to 4 , Snake infested environments , of which they have to go on night duties. And all some of you can do is to talk with " banku matcho " shoulders. Mr. Minister, you are trying well for the ministry, but please make the rural areas a bit comfortable for them, and I don't think there would be issues of posting them. And note that most countries are attracted to Ghanaian doctors and nurses, so by the time you finish with your threats, they may be gone already. So please do something.
