Modern day slavery. What is so special about Jamaica? Is sending nurses to Jamaica any achievement our health and foreign ministers should raise their shoulders above? Jamaica has a population of about 3 million and almost all their nurses are seeking greener pastures abroad. What is happening in SA and what happened to Ghanaians in Nigeria in 1983 should have warned the government that sending our citizens abroad is not something to encourage.
Where are the thinkers in Ghana? If we don't have employment for nurses we train, why should the nation so much money e.g. payment of nursing training allowances to them? Our bane as a nation is that we produce what we don't want and want what we don't produce. In future as is happening in SA, Jamaicans will rise against them and government will unavailable funds to bring them back - we must think!
