If I were the minister, I would have made unannounced visit to the facility to see things for myself before taking a decision. I see his action as abuse of power. In solidarity with the CEO, the hospital must rise up against the action taken against the CEO. Health workers are breaking their backs in order to deliver quality medical care to the clients under difficult conditions. I have observed a situation where nurses used polythene bags as examination gloves because they had no gloves. A&E isn't like main ward where patients can be on the floor, critically ill patients cannot be put on the floor. So the president's directive is neither here nor there as it doesn't solve the no bed syndrome. They know the solution but they are doing politics with it and dancing around the problem. Uncompleted hospitals are scattered around the country and instead of giving attention to them, directives are issued to silence management of health facilities. KATH must rally behind their CEO as he has been given a raw deal.

And think of ways of expanding the facility to be able to take on more patients. This is just a kmee-jeck reaction from the Minister.

The Minister of Health is notorious for such decisions. He should rather take over the hospital and manage it as "one man thousand". Let's be very truthful to ourselves. Is it best to allow patients to flock in when you have patients on beds receiving emergency care, with many others waiting, whilst the system remains open to receive, even though there is no definite timeline for when one patient will improve enough to be discharged and create a bed space?
I see the minister being populist here. He's playing to the cheer of the gallery. As usual, our tunnel vision has come back to subtly hunt us all. An engineer died in regrettable circumstances. We called in politicians and book specialists to make all the noise. Clueless leaders took the bait without any lateral views. Rules were made, and now others are suffering for them, even when the evidence shows that all the noise we made was in the wrong direction.
We need to accept the fact that even if we operationalise all the hospitals under construction today in Ashanti and other places, a day will come when they may, together or individually, be full, with no available beds to receive further inflows. When those times come, referring facilities need to hold on and stabilise patients as much as they can, and that I why one facility needs to come to say "I am at my maximum, please, I can't continue to accept". That is what the KATH CEO did. Mr Headmaster, you got it wrong even for political reasons. Shame on you
